“Didn’t get permanent role, offered 6-month contract instead – advice needed! Should I take the role to avoid being pegged at a lower level? #jobsearch #careeradvice #employment #contractjob”
Concerns:
- Lower level role than previous job
- Out of work for 3 months
Questions:
- Should I take the 6-month contract role?
- Will it affect future job opportunities?
Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!
Take it if no other offers. You said it yourself, “I’ve also been out of work for 3 months so any cash would be good.”
It still looks better in my opinion than 9 months of unemployment
Take it man. Market is tough. Once onboard reserve 30 minutes everyday (if you can) to check all the job boards and apply. You will be able to be a bit more picky next time.
As it pays lower ask them for a higher sounding title or make you a senior or even principal consultant.
Since you’re currently out of work any job can help keep things steady for now, plus gaining more experience never hurts even if it’s not exactly what you want, consider setting a goal to continue job searching even while on the contract, this way you keep your options open and keep moving forward in your career.
