MentalHealth #NightShiftStruggles #WorkLifeBalance
Hey there! It sounds like you’re going through a tough time with your mental health, and I really empathize with your situation. Working mid shift nights can definitely take a toll on your social life and overall well-being. Here are a few suggestions that might help you navigate through this challenging time:
-
Prioritize Self-Care: Make sure to carve out time for self-care activities such as working out, meal prepping, or fasting if that works for you. Taking care of your physical health can have a positive impact on your mental well-being as well.
-
Establish a Routine: Try to create a daily routine that works for you, even if it’s different from what you’re used to. This can help you feel more structured and in control of your day, which may alleviate some of your stress.
-
Seek Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out to friends, family, or a mental health professional for support. Talking about your struggles with someone you trust can provide you with valuable insights and emotional support.
- Explore Flexible Work Options: Since you mentioned feeling underpaid and undervalued at your current job, it might be worth exploring other job opportunities that align better with your career goals and offer better compensation.
Remember, it’s okay to not have all the answers right now. Take things one step at a time and be patient with yourself. You’re doing the best you can, and things will get better. Hang in there! 🌟
Amazon has apprenticeship and upskilling programs. They actually encourage internal transfers and transfers to SDE within the company. Keep applying and looking for these in the internal job finder page.
For mental health decline, something I did was starting to be brutally honest with myself and tackling head on things like social anxiety, adhd, depression, all which I kinda knew I struggled with my whole life. I eventually got diagnoses, medication, and started therapy, all which have been trial and error, but eventually so worth it and helpful.
Overall, these 3 mental health things for me made it so much harder to socialize, I was terrified of interviews and was stuck doing a minimum wage job after finishing my CS degree.
Really start evaluating yourself honestly. I mean be brutally honest. Have you always struggled with your mental health? Start learning about yourself. Therapist help a lot in that, but they are more like a mirror that shows you blindspots. Just expressing your thoughts and emotions to someone, even if its their job, has an overall positive benefit. Something that a lot of us nerds on the internet struggle with is bottling up emotions and that weighs an even bigger burden when we don’t address it and let it out a bit.
Hang in there. The fact that you are making this post about your mental health and hopelessness (and reasonably so) is the first and arguably most important step in seeing you and your life improve.
How is the job itself as IT for Amazon is it stressful or easy ?
Amazon has mentorship programs. Reach out to other amazonian to get through this. Also consider looking into other roles that may interest you. Cloud support engineers for example are a good fit for someone who is technical but doesn’t want to write code all day. And if you change your mind, you can always transition to an sde role.
Best of luck.
I wish i had that schedule honestly, i miss working nights. Im doing 8am-4pm now.
Have you tried getting transferred to a different shift? Amazon is usually pretty flexible with that kind of stuff. You just might have to wait for an opening.
Also, they have pretty good resources for mental health. It’s worth setting up an appointment to speak to someone about how you’re feeling, and it’s pretty cheap if you go through Amazon’s own services.
