A lot of apartment complexes these days require some sort of credit history.
Did you take out any student loans to pay for school? If so you’ll have a credit history. You can make an account on the big 3 reporting agencies’ websites or go to annualcreditreport.com to get a copy of your free credit history you can get once a year.
If the places say your credit score isnt good enough be prepared to look around for multiple apartments, and sometimes offering a larger security deposit can help smooth things over. Make sure to tell them this is your first apartment as well, sometimes that helps too.
Some landlords might accept you with a double security deposit and proof of income even if you don’t have credit. If they say no on credit, offer it if you’re able and see what happens
When I first moved out and had no rental history the only way I got my first apartment was showing the leasing office a bank statement showing I had enough money to pay the entire 12 month lease in savings.
