#UnfairTreatment #Discrimination #JobLoss
Hey everyone, I recently returned to work after taking sick leave, only to be demoted and eventually fired because I’m not bilingual. 🤬 Has anyone else experienced something similar?
Here are some possible solutions that might help others in similar situations:
– Reach out to a lawyer or employment advocate for advice on potential legal action
– Connect with HR or a higher-up in the company to discuss the unfair treatment and possible solutions
– Look for new job opportunities where your language skills are valued and appreciated
Let’s support each other and share any advice or experiences we have! #Support #WorkplaceIssues 💪🏼
That sucks, mate.
I think the moral should be “get them to court for wrongful termination”
Contact HR or the union if you have one. Seems like they targeted you specifically for some reason.
They’d want to make sure everyone above your position is bilingual
So, this sounds like retaliation for the sick leave, and they just waited as short time as possible after you got back and found a really flimsy excuse to fire you.
If that is what happened, it’s probably illegal (depends on where you live). The issue is that you would need to prove that’s what happened, which is why these lawsuits are so hard.
That being said, you might be able to win this if you want to try using them (you should consult a real lawyer first though). The “not bilingual” reason is extremely flimsy, especially if it wasn’t required before and no one is required to be bilingual. If they’re hiring, you might want to see if it’s a requirement for literally any position in the company. Also, while you didn’t give an exact timeline, if these events happened close enough it will help your case.
My nonprofessional advice would be to write everything that happened down as best you can remember, get screenshots and pictures of any relevant communications, then reach out to someone asap to see if you might have a case.
Constructive dismissal is the term I think you’re looking for here
I would consult with your labor board or a lawyer. This is wrong and may not be legal.
English and French, are you in Canada? I thought job protection was better up there. America has exported the wrong thing, trickle down economics, the scourge if humanity
Have you called the Ministry of Labour?
I’d suggest talking to an employment attorney. I agree it sounds like you were effectively demoted and then fired.
If there’s a bright side it sounds like the “senior” manager isn’t any better and will be running your team into the ground. They’ll be experiencing the find out phase soon.
