How many junior level (0-2 years of experience) employees were hired at this company in 2024? Are you curious about the hiring trends for entry level positions? Let’s dive in and uncover the answers together.
Understanding Selection Bias
When asking this question, it’s important to acknowledge the potential for selection bias in the responses we receive. Keep in mind that personal anecdotes may not reflect the overall hiring trends at the company.
Coping with Uncertainty
Feeling overwhelmed by uncertainty is completely normal. You’re not alone in navigating the job market and seeking clarity about your career path.

Slightly more than 2yoe here, laid off in December, it’s been tough, not so much as an interview. People who were laid off at the same time as me with significantly more experience also have not gotten interviews, it’s a brutal market
I graduated from UW (Informatics, not CS) in August last year with a 6-month internship. Had one OA in Jan and nothing else since. It’s rough. I just took a PT job as a phone interviewer to get my foot in the door with hopes of transitioning into SWE next year with the company, but the pay is actually terrible (13.5/hr). Gonna keep looking ofc but man does this feel rough.
Edit: University of Washington, Seattle.
Me. My parents have many industry connections so I sent my resume to their friends/colleagues. That’s how I got my job. I still had to interview (leetcode, system design, behavioral, etc.), wasn’t given an offer just like that because of the connections/referrals.
Ask your family and friends if they know anyone hiring and send your resume to them. It may work out for you too. And keep applying online. Big companies and small. Be open to relocation. Good luck

UK, 1yoe with masters in mathematics, been a programmer for 12 years, 9 year long portfolio of real projects. Haven’t gotten past the first stage of interviews in 18 months. Never made more than minimum wage.
I got a job this year. Graduated last year and then hired Jan 2, 2024.
I got a qa job in 2023 last year after an internship.
Me but I’m definitely a unicorn.
Graduated a week ago. Accepted a job offer in February. Start June 3rd.
I would encourage people on this post to mention if they are located in the US, the state they are on, and if they need a visa.
Is not the same having trouble finding a job in DC than in IN. Same goes for work authorization
I’m right at 1y 11months and have a final interview scheduled for next Tuesday. I’ll let you know how it goes in a week.
Laid off in October with just under 2 yoe, secured a role in December. I got very lucky.
0 YOE, graduated Dec 23.
Somehow lucked my way into a 6 figure job as a data scientist…
I have no idea what I’m doing.
143, i counted.
In twenty twenty-four, with a sigh,
A grad from the tech world did try,
But software skills lacked,
So job hunts were stacked,
Now coding dreams seem to fly high.
I’m just about to hit 2 YOE at FAANG and tbh I’m pretty confident that I could find another SWE position relatively quickly if I were to leave. Might not be able to find a job with the same pay or prestige, but I do believe I could find *something*. I get a ton of recruiter interest and I’ve seen peers with similar stats do okay after leaving recently.
0yoe still in school. Was more of a promotion/transfer. The other hires have decades more experience.
I graduated from Rutgers in January 2024, got a sweet 6-figure swe job in a big bank started Feb 2024
I got one
I went to a small school.
Just under 2.5 YOE here but without a CS degree.
Got hired in February 2024 for a remote job > $120k after having an 8 month gap (mostly for travel, was not until applying until the last 1.5 months).
Sadly I don’t have advice beyond the obvious — just reflect on how to improve your resume and how to impress in interviews, especially for the technical round.
But mostly I got lucky…
0 yoe in industry, but will finish my PhD next month. Got a Sr Data Scientist job.
I graduated last year and got a job in September at a local startup in Vegas. I’m the only developer and it’s kind of crazy, but I’m milking it for all it’s worth.
None
They’re not on here bro, they’re currently working lmao
Posted on here before. Did manage to land a gig in December 2023. Did not have any internships and 0 experience. Got lucky I guess.
Graduated last June with a bs in applied math so I’m looking for more data related positions and analyst positions. I’ve had about 7-10 interviews but they always eventually end up going to another candidate. I have an interview lined up and am waiting to hear back about a decision from another company. I started substitute teaching in the meantime to not be completely broke

I got a job this year, started March 1. Graduated in mid August last year.
I live in Canada. Couldn’t get an interview to save my life but ended up ultimately working for an American company fully remote.
It was the first and only interview I received 💁🏽♀️
I got one in April and I graduate this month. Not SWE but an Assoc Data Engineer role with a good amount of programming and cloud responsibilities. I go to a private college in MN so I feel immensely lucky that I got something before graduating.
I got job this year February graduated this past December I have 1-3 years free lance experience in Web dev but I’m trying to switch to an embbeded software role doing my MS in SWEN. I did an IT BS which is a little trickier to deal with when getting a dev job
Graduating in May and I have a job lined up as a Software Developer
0 yoe and I got my first job as a junior data analyst in January. At a smaller business though.
I was at almost 2 yoe and got a job back in March after my first contract ended Dec 1st.
Graduate this May with a CS degree from a Big10 school. Got a job offer as a SWE and a Cybersecurity consultant, went with the SWE job. Had 3 internships (2 at the same company and 1 where I got the Cyber return offer) throughout the summers of college.
RemindMe! Tonight
[Colombia] 12 months of experience (including 6 month internship), and right now I’ve been given a formal offer by one (biggest bank in my country) and tomorrow I’m doing health exams for Scotiabank (don’t know about there, but here they’ll only have you do a health exam as a final check before hiring).
I’ve been looking for almost exactly a month, which is when I had my graduation for my bachelors degree in Systems & Computation Engineering (SWE basically).
I also have plenty of practical experience though. Interesting projects in college, been doing personal projects since I was 12 (none commercial), have a homelab (interviewers eat it up).
Being detailed just to give a data point, not trying to flex
