Hey everyone! 🌟
I wanted to share a pretty big milestone with you all. Today, I officially handed in my notice at my job in veterinary care. After seven long years, I’ve decided it’s time to move on. Honestly, it’s been a rollercoaster, and I’m feeling a mix of relief and excitement for what’s next.
So, here’s the kicker: when I told my boss—who also owns the practice—all they said was, “Don’t forget to leave your key.” 😳
This really sums up my experience in the field:
- Lack of Appreciation: It’s disheartening to feel like your hard work goes unrecognized.
- Low Pay: After years in veterinary care, I can confirm that the pay barely covered basic living expenses, let alone any real comforts.
- Challenging Environment: Dealing with ungrateful bosses and corporations made it hard to stay motivated.
I know I’m not alone here. Many of you have likely faced similar challenges in your own jobs. Have you ever felt overlooked or unappreciated in your career? What did you do about it?
I’d love to hear your experiences or any tips you might have for navigating tough work environments. Let’s discuss how we can support each other in finding better opportunities and taking care of ourselves in our professions!
Cheers to new beginnings! 🥳✨
Shit, maybe you could still do it if you like it. Maybe do a delivery vet service until you can afford your own place next to your bosses and put him out of business?
Did you give two weeks? If so, change it to 2 minutes.
“By the way, if you’re gonna be a dick I think I’ll just leave today – Here’s your fuckin key”
Forget to leave the key. Or throw it on the roof
What did you expect? You quit.
It’s just business. Don’t expect any kind of gratitude from people who think they own you.
Hope they don’t have to call you for anything. “What’s that boss, I don’t remember”.
I’m in the minority here, but this seems like a great outcome, no retaliation, no hostility. We aren’t slaves, employers expect us to come and go. It was a professional relationship that is coming to a close, and he is just commenting on a loose end. He doesn’t seem to think you owe him anything except the key. I’m sure I’m missing a lot of context.
It sounds like it went about the best it could, honestly. Did you expect flowers?
“Sorry, I forgot to leave my key. Could you please send me a prepaid shipping label for it? Thanks!”
When I was part of a forced layoff, my “boss” took that day off. Coward.
He also put me on a PIP because I wasn’t “completing enough tickets” even though we had a project manager that would assign them. You lose some you lose some. 🤷♂️
What did you expect? Did you want them to break down in tears and pledge undying love? You said you were leaving. They understood and accepted it. Conversation over.
Sometimes, notice just isn’t necessary. The last time I gave notice was when I was going to be backstabbed by a supervisor. The only reason why I gave notice was because the next day scheduled was a double, and I didn’t want to see my clients without care
I had a boss like this. Friendly to his employees but he seemed to take it like a personal rejection if you left. Not only that he’d handle it by pretending it wasn’t happening.
Your sendoff from a job is a true testament to how important you really were there.
