What non animation courses can you take
Your parents consider it a waste of money to transition _out_ of an animation degree? What?
Dear, just 22, so first of all please don’t lose your hope, you are energetic, full of hopes, who said any filed is waste, keep in mind there is no such field in the world which is wasted, yes OfCourse, you have to give your best to your field, do your hard work (which is only the key of success), create social media channels, like YouTube, Insta etc. upload your animations, sure you will get a good job, YES I CAN repeat it many times in a day
Please take a deep breath first before doing anything rash. I entered a major because it is high in demand and pays well… years later I am still regretting it big time (grateful for the life lessons it taught me though) and am finding it so difficult to transition to another job.
This world is unkind to those who made the wrong choice in college, so think twice, thrice, before you throw in the towel. I would suggest you get a major for something you CAN do every day, with a sense of fulfillment, so you will regret nothing. However, if you can stand not loving the job and just working to earn more, then you can choose the safer, more sensible choice of a high demand and high paying course. It’s up to you. What kind of person do you see yourself as? Assess it for yourself. God bless you.
I’m not sure how the university setup is in your country, but when I was 20, I told my parents I wanted to switch my major to Chinese (after studying abroad). They agreed, on the condition that I take a semester off in between to really think it over and see if my passion for the language might be short lived.
If possible, I think you could try something similar. See if your parents would be open to the idea of you pausing your studies for a semester to try out working in a new field, getting an internship, or shadowing/apprenticing under someone in the field that would make best use of the new major you’ve researched.
Also, your parents seem ignorant to the sunk cost fallacy. It would be preferable to leave a seemingly fruitless degree halfway through, rather than stick it out to “save money” and limit your lifetime earning potential.
>I feel stupid for choosing this course because I’ve lost interest and can’t see myself pursuing this career in the future.
You’re not stupid…You’re early 20s…at the time you knew nothing. Now you know what you don’t want to do.. which is one more thing. Winning.
>I was naive and should have chosen a more in-demand and high-paying major. In two more years, I’ll be holding a useless art degree,
University as a trades school is the great lie of the last 50+ years. Education for the sake of education is not useless. If you’re learning nothing…that is useless.
There is literally nothing stopping one from getting more degrees and certifications after the first one so I don’t see a problem here. Go get more.
I was in the same shoes as you ,but i did an illustration degree and dropped the last year. Even worked in the video game industry for a few years. I’m also from a very small country and have no debt or anything. I’m 25 now and i’m going back to uni this year. I hated the “creative” industry with a passion. I can’t nor should give you any advice , but your life is ahead of you. Do what you think should be done.
Idk how is your country, but can’t you study whatever you like and work at the same time to pay your things? I made that move when I changed my career, after a while my parents helped me out, but it was no longer necessary
Try to switch out of your degree. It might seem like a big deal to do a few extra years, but I promise it is not a big deal and it’s done very often. The time for action is now, not when you’re about to graduate. You are 22 years old and you don’t have to tell your parents everything. Take out a loan to pay it or part time job. Chin up friend, the best lives are never a straight path.
Animation??!!! SMH. Same as those History, English, Art, and Philosophy majors.
USELESS!! Equivalent to = No One will hire you.
Get a normal job? I’m sorry but do you not understand how privileged you are to have parents that funded anything? Get a normal entry level job and do something on the side like the rest of us have had to.
Don’t feel stupid. It’s only your second semester! You’re supposed to take classes and evaluate your decisions. Switch if you’re unhappy! Switch if you want to make money! That’s the point of being able to take any electives and 101 classes you want.
