Are you tired of dealing with marketing agencies that promise big results but deliver subpar performance? As an entrepreneur who has built a successful e-commerce business, I can relate to the frustrations of working with agencies that fail to meet expectations. But fear not, there is a solution that has worked wonders for me – hiring freelancers.
The Problem with Agencies
Over the past 5 years, I have hired multiple marketing agencies to handle my Google Ads account. Despite their impressive portfolios, none of them were able to deliver the results I was looking for. It became clear that their lack of experience managing larger budgets (over 10k+ per month) was hindering their ability to scale my campaigns effectively.
The Freelancer Advantage
Frustrated with the lackluster performance of agencies, I decided to give freelancers a try. And let me tell you, it was a game-changer. Within just 6 months of working with a talented freelancer, I saw a significant improvement in my Google Ads account.
The freelancer not only exceeded my expectations but also managed to achieve a 10x return on ad spend (ROAS) – a feat that was five times better than what agencies had delivered. The personalized attention, expertise, and dedication of the freelancer truly made a difference in the success of my campaigns.
Why Freelancers are Better
Freelancers offer several advantages over agencies, including:
- Personalized attention and dedicated focus on your project
- Extensive experience in managing campaigns with larger budgets
- Cost-effective solutions without the overhead expenses of agencies
- Faster turnaround times and more flexibility in making adjustments
Conclusion
If you’re struggling to see results with marketing agencies, consider giving freelancers a chance. Their unique skill sets, flexibility, and ability to deliver personalized results make them a valuable asset to any business. Don’t be swayed by the allure of big agencies – sometimes, a smaller, more focused approach is exactly what you need to take your campaigns to the next level.
In conclusion, the choice between freelancers and agencies ultimately comes down to what works best for your business. But for me, the results speak for themselves – freelancers are indeed better than agencies when it comes to driving success in digital marketing. Give freelancers a chance, and you may be pleasantly surprised by the exceptional results they can deliver. #SuccessWithFreelancers 🚀💼
Yup. For at least 2 reasons:
1. The best talent at agencies realize these days they can probably go it alone, work less and make the same or more money. So they do. They’re also fed up with the wasted time spent in offices… worthless meetings, etc. So out they go.
2. A freelancer can give you more at a lower cost. With an agency you have to pay for the office space, the “account manager”, the “assistant account manager”, the human resource department, etc. Freelancers don’t have those expenses.
Most big agencies have a team for onboarding and a team for calling once a month, not much else gets done, they use a lot of automation and hope clients don’t “consume too much time”
But that doesn’t automatically mean freelancers are better – some are – many are not
In OP’s case if their marketing spend is that high, it would make more sense to bring the work in-house and that person would then coordinate between different departments to streamline new launches, promotions, integrate campaigns between multiple channels, etc…
Do your due diligence – know what you need – hold them accountable – make changes if the metrics say changes are needed – be proactive
Yes, with lower costs as well, and they have more incentives to win and to make it good.
Indeed, I have a marketing agency and run the ads myself, years back when I tried outsourcing some of the available budget to a bigger marketing agency (with authorization from my client) hoping they could do better than me for a $40k/mo budget customer, they failed miserably, not a single booking with $10k.
Same story they looked pretty good large agency their own dashboards, testimonials, etc.
People working at agencies still have their salary at end of the month, regardless of results.
Freelancers will usually work harder for the buck and are more resourceful as that’s how they make money.
All my hires for my businesses are freelancers and overall I avoid working with agencies, upwork is a great place to find good freelancers.
I swear I saw this very same post earlier today…
I’m a freelance conversion copywriter.
I occassionally work with agencies – and I’m almost always appalled by their work.
As soon as you pay any kind of fixed fee they have an economic incentive to hire the cheapest possible freelancers and overwork them to squeeze out value – and protect their margins.
I’m amazed that this simple, obvious problem isn’t widely understood.
I’m only hired when shit goes REAL bad and they need to splash cash to save a failed project.
Agree with this – I am one of the ecom founder / freelancers you speak of 🙂
My own projects have unique supply chain complexities, so with down time I love jumping in to others’ ecom businesses and helping fine tune things.
Benefits my clients get:
– I’ve been there, done that with just about every aspect of ecom.
– I’m not an agency and only pick up a few projects at a time – you get to work directly with me.
– I only take on projects that actually care about.
Yup and I’ll add, as a freelance designer and developer—
I’ve worked at agencies before. All they do is hand your project to one of me. It’s the same work. Just with all their overhead.
Maybe unpopular opinion. I’m a freelance web developer and agree with most comments here. However, trusting a freelance web dev to fully build your platform is risky because if the freelancer stops freelancing for whatever reason, it’s a big headache. Same applies to trusting a freelancer for all SEO related tasks etc etc. Agencies can close down as well, true, but it’s less likely to happen in my opinion. I also feel that agencies can scale better.
Where can I go to find good freelancers? I noticed on upwork, a lot of them are also agencies. Thanks in advance!
Do you mind if I DM some questions about your work? Nothing personal, I’d just like to hear the perspective of someone actively running a store.
Yeah this is exactly why I tell potential clients that I’m not an agency. Nothing is lost in translation with hiring a freelancer and they’re reputation is on the line always
Agreed. As a Freelancer / glorified one man agency with a team of freelancers around me I am much more serious about generating a return on my clients investment because 1) it’s the right thing to do and 2) recognizing and closing a good client and busting your ass to get them good results is infinitely better for my mental health and pockets vs churn and more discovery and more slide decks. Talking about title tags and broken links for the 10,000th time is soul crushing I want to be engaged in envelope pushing work. Every agency I’ve worked at is more concerned with playing the “Got em!” contract game and their projected revenue than actually generating real ROI on their clients. Good enough is good enough. A lot of people that work at agencies also really don’t know how to rank sites. They just throw a ton of shit at the wall and see what sticks vs an experienced affiliate SEO that also does client work – they can do some real impact. There are some exceptions I’m sure. I say this because I’ve worked in many agencies, and also because I have hired influencers agencies. For instance – Matt Diggitys agency – I was like “man I’m bout to just whitelabel their work and sell” output was laughable at best meanwhile I love his courses / teachings.
As a freelancer I can’t help but agree 🙂
Absolutely, individual expertise often trumps big names.
Freelancers often bring focused, personalized value.
Yes, I was always self-employed and I was always better than agencies. But I decided to open my agency with a different mindset than everyone else to make more money, because they don’t value freelancers
A genuine question; where did you find this freelancer?
and why did you choose him/her? I mean what traits did you see
P.S. I’m an experienced AI engineer & researcher, trying to find freelancing work but it’s seems hard to find clients.
Definitely true for ‘big’ agencies, but a small agency will be far more valuable and knowledgable than a freelancer. From my experience anyway.
The smaller agencies are essentially a group of freelancers who know how to work together and are much more optimised. Larger agencies are just about meetings and talking the big talk without actually doing much work.
Freelancers are much less of a headache, too.
Great tip, thank you for sharing
How did you find the best freelancers for the task?
Yup, first of all freelancers are only fosus on your work on potential clinet .and otherhand companies are many project it cannot be focus.
In my case, just my case, freelancers are not available consistently as a paid employee with a 9-5. But they both have pros and cons for sure.
Yeah. Agencies are focused on closing more deals and reducing churn to keep funds flowing.
Freelancers have a personal responsibility to their clients and getting results means they’re getting paid. Way better for everyone
As an entrepreneur, I often find that agencies promise a lot, but when it comes time to deliver, they fall short of expectations. It’s frustrating when they can’t follow through on what they said they would do.
Why are you selling ppc services?
Agreed!
