Outdated Resumes?
Have you had applicants who fail to update their job experience on their resumes, expecting you to decipher their work history? Share your thoughts on this common dilemma!
Instant reject. The amount of resumes that completely suck at all levels is mind blowing.
It’s the not current resumes for leadership roles from people with high level experience for me. I’m working on a VP of HR role and have talked to several candidates with “-Present” on their resume when it was really “-2022” and they’ve since had another job.
Yup, and my management is delusional and will audit who I reject. When they see I reject people with poor resumes they’ll hit me with “well why didn’t you call the candidate to verify is their resume is correct?” Like idk, maybe update your resume before you apply for jobs.
I’ve had a few candidates get angry with me recently for requesting an updated resume… for the job they applied for.
Curious about the “updated experience” issue. I’ve seen other recruiters complain about this without realizing that applicants may have simply been out of work or doing other things unrelated to work for X months.
For example, if an applicant was laid off ~6 months ago, and lists their latest position with an ending date that is 6 months ago, some recruiters considered it not updated. But, if that same applicant lists their latest position with something like “through Current,” then that implies the applicant is still working there. It seems the applicants are damned if they do and damned if they don’t, so to speak.
Are you using an actual resume or some tool like workday? Usually workday doesn’t mangle my resume too bad and I only have add the location and fix a few company names, but some of them are just absolutely ridiculous. I usually end up filling out one work experience for the duration of my career that says “see resume”.
Yes. Complete Trash. Like they don’t want a job
I never call or even look at people with blank resumes. I also don’t call those with 1 bullet point of experience. Waste of my time. I am not going to be on the phone and write a whole resume. If one is serious about a job, then they will have it updated. The only ones I help mostly in those terms are people who have been in the same company for 6+ years, and that’s because they have no idea how much things have changed.
I have gotten literal screen shots from phones.
Hi, unrelated but can i get anyone who is an IT recruiter to have a quick look at my resume ? Kindly DM if you can help me. I’m a cybersecurity analyst looking for opportunities in Europe.
Ugh…yes. For me, I hate the resumes where they put no effort. They don’t even list any job duties from previous roles, just titles. Or some people don’t even include the dates. Like this job market is competitive asf. At least make your resume look good.
Lmao needing resumes. It’s funny in my company skillsets, degrees, experience are unimportant. They mostly care about the persons attitude and performance. It’s funny because we don’t like to work with people who have experience in what we do which is insurance because they use the old ways they were taught to do things and aren’t as coachable.
