Hey everyone! 👋 Have any of you experienced brain damage that affected your memory and intelligence? I could use some advice and suggestions on possible career options without needing a degree or technical skills. Here’s a bit of my backstory:
A few years back, I was in a bad accident that caused brain damage, affecting my memory and cognitive abilities. I had to drop out of university and even struggled at community college. Now, I’m working at Walmart but finding it hard to make ends meet.
I’m looking for a career that allows me to help people directly or do hands-on work, as sitting at a computer for long periods is challenging. Here are a few things I’m considering:
- Healthcare Assistant: Helping people directly and making a positive impact.
- Construction Worker: Hands-on work with tangible results.
- Personal Trainer: Working closely with clients to achieve their fitness goals.
Do you have any other ideas or suggestions for me? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences! Let’s brainstorm together and find a rewarding career path. 🌟
Hi! I’m so glad to hear you recovered from your accident. Recovery from traumatic brain injury is slow and so so gradual, so congratulations on sticking with it! If you enjoy working with people, consider options like recreational therapist, activities director (think at an assisted living, nursing home, or children’s hospital), or something in the realm of athletic training! Could also consider after school programming work like at a boys and girls club or YMCA. Moving more towards the outdoors, you could consider work in landscaping, parks and recreation, forestry, property management, groundskeeping, or facility maintenance. Finally, consider skilled trades like machinist, mechanic, electrician, or carpenter. Some of these last options have apprenticeships as ways to get into the fields.
