#WorkingInterview #EmployeeRights #Compensation
So, let me get this straight – working interviews where you don’t get paid are a thing? 🤦 That just sounds like a whole lot of “No, thank you” to me.
I mean, it’s not only unethical, it’s also illegal. You should always be compensated for your time and effort, especially if you’re actually doing work for a company.
Here’s a possible solution to this issue that might benefit others facing a similar situation:
– Always ask about compensation upfront before agreeing to a working interview
– Research your rights as an employee in your state regarding unpaid work
– Consider discussing the issue with the company and expressing your concerns
Let’s make sure we’re all informed and protected when it comes to our rights as employees. Have you ever experienced a working interview like this? What did you do about it? Let’s discuss! 🗣️ #employeeexperience #knowyourrights
I’m sure your local department of labor would appreciate the tip.
I’m out.
look for another job dud lol
That’s a Texas sized ‘No’ and a huge red flag. Actually, it’s a box of red flags. It would also suggest that the team might be toxic – ‘see if you would mesh’? Perhaps the hiring team is so incompetent they feel they need to do this (because the team is toxic) That’s what interviews (and maybe behavioural tests are for). This hiring market is the worst I’ve ever seen. I’ve been in HR for 10 years.
Do not work for free! This is illegal!
“Thank you very much! Before we proceed, before I volunteer for you, please can I request your charity registration number?”
I am getting interviews for jobs and find out during the interview it is unpaid for 3-6 months.
When did this start to do programming and if they find a client for their product, they will then pay the developer?
I am no one agrees with me but I think its a great idea for software engineers
There have bene jobs I have taken that I wish I could have worked 4 hours and got a sense of what my day to day job way. But instead I can only talk to a manager and have little idea what the actual job is like.
I assume this would come as a final test before hiring.. not something they do to everyone that applies
what did you actually do when you went to their office? just curious
Yeah that’s not an interview lol
Ask them to send you an email asking you in for the 4 hours. Go in and do the 4 hours. Send them an invoice for the 4 hours at contractor rates.
If the business sells the product of your interview labor to paying customers, then it’s fucked; but if you’re just shadowing an employee or making test welds on a scrap piece of metal, that’s different.
It’s not illegal if you’re “volunteering.”
This happened to me a few months ago.
I did an initial interview then a few days later did a 3 hour working interview at a different location.
My working interview went well and was fun, after that I called the hiring manager that it went well and I liked it.
She said she’d get back to me the next day.
2 weeks go by and never heard a word.
So I was salty for wasting my time and gas,I wrote a yelp review of my experience with the company. Only then they decided to call and leave a message.
Yes I did text multiple times for a follow up and I get nothing.
Lesson learned to never do an unpaid working interview.
It also says a lot about the company.
Go work and take a hand injury, then sue and file with labor department lolol
Nope, they need to be reported to the department of labor. No one in the USA works for a free trial.
They would only try that with immigrants, that’s why it’s best to come to the US legally.
