#JobLoss #Unemployment #HighSalaryStruggles 💼
Hey everyone, have any of you gone from making a comfortable 100k a year to being unemployed for months on end? I feel your pain, believe me. It’s tough out there, especially when you’re used to a certain lifestyle and then suddenly it’s all gone.
I recently left a toxic job that paid me 110k a year, and now I’m scrambling to find new opportunities. Sound familiar to anyone? Here are my thoughts:
– Odd jobs are a good temporary fix to bring in some income 💸
– Starting a masters program could be a great way to enhance your skills and open up new opportunities 🎓
– Don’t be afraid to reach out to your network for job leads or references 🤝
– Consider seeking support from a career counselor or therapist to help navigate this challenging time 🧠
Have any of you been in a similar situation and found a better opportunity? I’m all ears for tips and advice! Let’s support each other through this tough time. #CareerChange #SupportSystem
That happened to me last year. I took a job at roughly 100K/year, but I believe I was “encouraged to quit” because a) my hiring was politically motivated, which I had not known; b) I was recovering, albeit in rapid time, from back surgery, and the job was a bait and switch for physical labor; c) I was a woman with a solid resume among young and incompetent bros. It took me five months to find another shit job at lesser pay, but I got a couple of certs that led to a job offer for 100K/year almost two months ago.
Yes. On top of an already difficult job market for all levels of seniority, if you’re commanding $100K+ I would argue it’s even more difficult in this demographic. Ironically, people with more skills and experience are having a harder time finding jobs right now.
Yep same here making just north of 100k with stock and bonuses included. Was “moved” to a different department where my fellow analysts were making 30 k less than me. Job was eliminated in Feb 24. Have about 50 k in savings and a severance from them so being picky right now
I got a great role a couple of years ago, but I’m a technical writer. I was in the job for a year and I my job got replaced by AI. since then. I’ve worked one six-month contract. I’ve been unemployed more than employed since 2023.
Yep. I had been making just shy of 160k. Laid off in December. I just started some contract work and I’m hoping it turns into a salaried position. I have another interview on Monday anyway. I’m hoping one of the two pans out as unemployment is over.
I have been without a job since Jan 24. Not getting any traction. Was offered a role in another state but it required working late shifts and there was no relocation so I passed. Given the amount I have spent chasing recruiters, I’m thinking of starting a staffing company 😄
Me. It’s a complete lifestyle change and it makes me depressed

Was making $165k base (~$200k total comp) then our entire division/business was laid off with no warning. Took me 7 months of job hunting to finally land a $130k tc role. I’m so freaking grateful for this job because there wasn’t anything else on the horizon but the comp is kind of killing me. (We’re in a HCOL area and I’m the primary breadwinner so it doesn’t stretch as far as it should)
I’ve been unemployed since November 2023 after a reduction in force (laid off) for a very toxic, tech/ecommerce company (not Amazon). I’ve gotten a few interviews but it’s resulted in them either looking for a unicorn or it likely being a ghost job. One of the roles went to the final round but I didn’t get it…..6 months later, the req is still posted. I went from making $200k base (TC $370k) to nothing. I am fortunate though to have some savings, but I’m considering a completely different field entirely because fuck this.
Masters program won’t help but drain your finances
I was making ~130k and after 6 months I just took whatever I could get and now make 50k. It blows!!!!!
Yes, had a job making about 150k in base pay (there were RSUs and bonuses on top of that).
Got terminated in mid-April. I approached a small (fewer than 50 employees) engineering company that I would’ve loved to work for, gave a “not-really-an-interview” job talk there10 days ago. The CEO loved it and thought that I would make a great addition, but the situation on the ground was that there wasn’t authorization yet for another hire, and there wouldn’t be until mid-July.
Which would be no big deal, except I had been approached by a contract recruiter for a job. 24-month contract. No RSUs, no bonuses. 15 days PTO, no paid holidays. Base pay at 131k, but time-and-a-half for overtime (which may well occur, given what I’ve been told). Oh, and to the extent that it matters: a big name, and one which would be a feather in my cap going forward.
On Wednesday I was told that I got the job and would have to make a decision in 24 hours. I called up the CEO of the small company, and he told me, yeah, he couldn’t get the parent company to authorize a new hire just yet, and I should take the bird in hand.
I guess I’ll see what happens. Even though it’s a contract job, I have the option of quitting if I give a 2-week notice (and they have the option of terminating my employment at any time as well, which makes the 24-month period only an upper limit on how long I’ll be working there). And in the meantime redouble my Python learning.
Was making over 200k. 10mo and can’t find shit.
Was making 90k at a toxic as shit environment. made it a year and a month. Had a couple finals but no dice.
Had to sell the house I’ve had for a decade (closing soon).
Yep hi 👋🏿 made 140-150k been laid off about a year now 🫠
Made roughly 120k last year been laid off almost 5 months now. Its boring mostly, I just workout, apply for jobs , and chill
Took me 4 months to find something. Hang in there!
This is what people fail to realize is that white collar six figure job requires a different set of working standards.
