29, I crossed $200K this year. VP in Market Risk at a global Bank. 9 years of experience across 2 different banks out of school. Now I work about ~50 hours a week but sometimes it can be up to 70 however that’s rare.
Happy I found this niche and got involved in it after trying the Banking route and realizing it was not for me at all. Regret would possibly only be slacking for a bit while i was 24 while I took the GMAT and applied to Business School only to realize it was not right for me and I was wasting my time.
Portfolio Manager in High Frequency trading, I work 50 – 60 hours per week I guess but hard to estimate… is reading a research paper on Sunday really work?
7 years of experience: quant at a bank -> quant trader at a prop shop -> PM.
no regrets really, loving what I do.
Bit different response but I’m a recruiter at a HF. 9 years of experience total – for 6 years I was an investor at another HF, then a few years ago did a big career pivot. Work about 40 hours/week, make a little over $200 all in, honestly no regrets.
PWM. Mm real work depends on the season, can go up to 60 can be as low as 30. Averages out to 36-40hr a week. Getting started required a lot of time to learn how to talk to clients, be familiar with tactics and techniques, learning to underwrite loans, learn the legal side of business, learn tax side, common issues, less common issues, etc. Averages out to 60+ hrs a week for the first few years.
Now it’s just about maintaining my book and adding clients that will add value.
F500 finance director. 35-45 hrs a week. 12 yoe. Consumer goods. Very happy where things are. I probably could have made a lot more money applying the my ability and time to a more lucrative industry and location (been in rust belt city suburb my whole career), but i might have become someone who I wouldn’t like.
200k line also depends a bit on wether you are located in US, UK, Europe or Asia? Anybody any idea how to quantify an overall level of measure?
23 – $205k total comp. IB analyst at an EB, 0 YoE.
I’d say hours fall in the 70-80 territory on a “normal” week. Averaged in the upper 90s for several months while in deal mode. Don’t regret it – but know I have no intention of sticking around given the sheer lack of WLB.
VP in M&A at a LMM boutique in NYC. Work 65-80 hours each week and have been working in boutique banking for 8 years now.
$400k, director of Corp strategy at a bank
Recently crossed this mark in data science and analytics after 7 focused years working my way here. I make around 250K USD
175k base, 100k bonus, 275k all in. 29 years old, first year in IB after getting an MBA. Hours can be brutal depending on the team but fortunately I’m in a place where I should only be working ~65-70 on average. Only regret is not figuring things out sooner. If I had done IB out of undergrad I’d be a mid level VP by now, making more, and hopefully working less, plus I wouldn’t have 100k in MBA debt, but am relatively happy where I’m at now.
I was making that and then I promptly quit and went back to school because I was bored
250TC, might be 300 if bonuses work out. Data scientist. Nominally 40 hours per week, but varies. 7 yoe. FinTech. Regrets – I should have locked in a Director level title during 2022 job hopping and these days I’ve been pissed watching mediocre male losers luck into positions they didn’t earn.
29 years old. VC. $300K comp + carry (fake money). 40-50 hour weeks
High six figs, alts product in a big name.
Work prob 60 hrs a week, maybe an extra 5-10 on weekends depending. 6 YOE. Event-driven equity hedge fund. Really not many regrets, but really enjoy what I do, even though it’s v intense.
225k tc, portfolio manager at a bb. 8 years experience, work about 55-60hrs/wk. went from ops -> mo -> associate pm at an IM -> pm at BB. No regrets other than wishing I did better in college to get to where I am. Had I started out of undergrad would have been an upper VP/MD by now.
Remote, 30 on a hard week. 20 on lax. I am on call from 8am – 5pm and ive taken client calls in the evening too. Call that what you want but i am actually “working” 20-30 hours. Comp is $225k. I got some whales in the pipeline and if i land them all (likely) ill be at $250k. Company will be granting me equity at year end. If they dont, i leave and take my clients generated $450k in revenue a year.
Wealth management, graduated 2015. CFP by 2018.
I have no regrets. This job is a dream. If i ever had to go to an office again id quit and start my own firm with the clients i own. Getting to this point is a grind however.
I spent my first 3 years answering 40-50 phone calls a day with a 30 minute break and a forced unpaid hour lunch. Office 5 days a week.
Commodity trading (physical). 10 years. Would say under 30hrs of real work on average however there is a lot of travel.
Prime Brokerage sales – 10 yoe. Around 40 per week. Total comp is USD 240k on VP level
anybody have any advice how to start now while i’m 19 so i can reach this by atleast 30???
~250 TC. 8 YOE. Corp Dev. Hours vary between 40 and 55. Travel not included in those hours.
$250k base + approx $125k bonus. 37 yo. Work 40 hrs/week in a capital markets / project finance function for large industrial
Pulled 250 last year. Somewhere between 275-300 this year depending on where bonuses shake out. 27 YO. 3.5 YoE. Private Credit. 40-50 hrs a week.
