Hey everyone! 👋 Have you ever been so excited about a job offer that you almost missed the red flags waving right in front of you? I recently dodged a bullet by nearly falling for a job scam and I wanted to share my experience to help others avoid the same situation. Here’s what happened:
– Applied to jobs on job boards and received an email confirming my interest in a position.
– Received interview questions and answers in an ODT file, followed by a soft offer of $60/hr as a junior with a home office stipend.
– Noticed inconsistencies and a gut feeling that something was off, prompting me to call their HQ phone number.
– Discovered it was a scam – no one I spoke to actually worked there.
Here’s what I learned and the possible solution to protect yourself:
– Beware of companies asking you to buy equipment for a home office and sending a check for the stipend.
– The check may never arrive or bounce, leaving you stuck with purchased equipment and potential financial losses.
– Avoid buying through their vendor to prevent legitimate dollar theft.
Remember, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect yourself from job scams in the future. Share your experiences and let’s keep each other safe! 🛡️ #StaySafe #JobSearchTips
I’ve gotten a couple of these before too.
I’m worried that with tech like sora we might have entire zoom interviews faked in 5 years.
