There are no bears here! Oh yeah???
Several years ago, my wife and I visited Whistler BC in the late spring/early summer. Snow was mostly gone, but we thought the gondola would be a gorgeous ride. We lined up to board, and two very large, very old people cut in front of us as we were getting on, acting like they didn’t see us (when very clearly, at least the old man looked me dead in the eye, almost as if to say ‘go ahead, say something’).
Heading up the Mountain 🚠
It was just the 4 of us on the gondola, and the couple went straight to the ‘front’ – facing towards the top of the mountain – and took up the entire front view. My wife and I, sort of dejected, sat down behind them. Who doesn’t want to be at the front???
They start complaining that there is no snow and then, in particular, in the most British Cockney accent you can imagine says ‘there are no bears here!’ (If you have ever been to that area in spring/summer, there are bears EVERYWHERE!).
🐻 Bear Encounter 🐻
My wife and I were tail end Charlies, looking out the back – and what do you know, we go right over a large brown bear and THREE cubs! (how the old fuckers missed it, I will never know). My wife and I sat there in awe of what we were seeing, and kept our mouths shut, grinning from ear to ear. The rest of the view WAS beautiful.
As the ride ended, the old couple, again waiting to be the first, busted out of the gondola, could be heard complaining that they had wasted $50 and wish they had not bothered to ride.
Those old assholes probably went home and complained to their friends ‘Canada doesn’t have any bears!!!’

I’m expecting there to be a “a bear jumped out and scared the old couple shitless and ran away” somewhere at the end
We visited the Canadian Rockies on our honeymoon, including Whistler. Best trip ever! We did have to endure the bus tours.
Should have casually remarked to your wife how beautiful the mama bear and cubs were as you walked by them
Should’ve said to your wife “look at those apples and pears”.
(Cockney rhyming slang for ‘stairs’ but also rhymes with bears)
Sorry, best I could do 🤷🏻
You should’ve showed them the pictures of the bears as they were complaining.
British. Would have thought American tourists with their attitude.
Should have told them to walk around Churchill Manitoba for an afternoon!
They were unbearable
I would have talked about the bear and 3 cubs and made sure they saw we had pictures too.
If they travel today , they will say ” We wasted 120$” 🙂
You should have exited the gondola loudly talking about how lucky you were to see 4 bears from the gondola! And three cubs, that is so rare!
Petty revenge would’ve been telling them they missed the bears.
I would have talked very loudly as we waited to get off about the bears we took pictures of in front of (or behind them) and how beautiful and majestic they were
Maybe they don’t know what bears are
I ran into a pair of bear cubs a few dozen km from Whistler. One of the scariest moments in my life. There are indeed bears everywhere.
Sorry, we try to keep the bad brits at home but some do escape occasionally!
So thought this was gonna be about the bear / man in the woods.🤣
Makes me think about the time when I was working on a cruise ship – we were in Alaska and a colleague and some passengers saw 2 bears fighting right at the shoreside just as the ship was leaving Glacier Bay. More passengers came over to watch and it was apparently just fantastic to watch. As my colleague left to go back to work, he passed 2 passengers having a whinge. The woman said to her husband “I don’t know why we spent all this money just to watch ice melt”
They must have missed out on seeing the killer whales in the Inside Passage as well.
It would have been impossible for me to not ask if they got any pics of the cubs with the mother on the ride, after of course.
