Hey guys, I have a dilemma on my hands and could really use some advice! My roommate got arrested for a DUI-related incident, moved out, and now my fiancée and I are left with the bills to cover. The leasing company is not being very cooperative, and I’m feeling stuck 😞
Here’s the situation in a nutshell:
– Roommate caused an accident, got arrested, and bailed out
– No financial contributions towards bills from him since
– Leasing company not offering any favorable options for lease amendment or cancellation without hefty fees
Any ideas on how to handle this sticky situation?
Here’s what I’m thinking could help:
– Negotiate with the leasing company for a more reasonable solution
– Maybe consider subletting the extra room
– Look into legal resources for tenants rights in Orlando 📝💬
Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice to offer? Thanks in advance for your help! 🏠💡
it’s either that or find someone to replace him. you can then try to sue your former roommate in small claims for his part of the lease termination fee.
You find someone else to replace him, or break the lease and take him to small claims court to be reimbursed.
Yes, the business says you have to pay because that’s best for the business. Don’t take their word for it being the right or legal option.
Details matter (and what you SIGNED), but a “possible” legal outcome is that Tommy is the sole person responsible to the tenant office (Tommy could sue you for you part of the bill after).
Did you sign anything and to who? A sublease signed to Tommy is different then one to the landlord/company.
