Hey everyone, I need some advice. When my dad passed away, his girlfriend kicked me and my brother out of the house and still has most of our belongings. It’s been almost seven years and we’re missing sentimental items like our mom and dad’s wedding rings and video tapes of me as a baby. 🙁 Here’s what I think I can do:
- Consult with a lawyer: They can help determine what legal rights you have regarding your dad’s belongings.
- Communicate with the girlfriend: Try reaching out to her and see if you can work out a solution amicably.
- Document everything: Keep records of all communication with the girlfriend and any attempts to retrieve your belongings.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation or have any advice to share? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! 💬🤔 #SeekingAdvice
Consult with a local probate attorney. If your Dad never married her she likely owns nothing.
No will means it has to go through probate first. And if they weren’t married she is most likely entitled to nothing
I also hope you and brother have been receiving your social security survivors benefits from your father’s account and any life insurance/pension monies.
That was the way he chose to distribute
the funds upon his death. As I said I hope someone helped you both with applying for your social security survivor’s benefits.
You are 18, contact attorney’s offices and see if you can get a free consultation. They will tell you if they want the case and the costs. Stopping by in person is better than a phone call.
It is better sometimes to be in the flesh than a voice on a phone.
Best of luck to you.
