Hey everyone! 🌟 So, my friend works as a Personal Support Worker for a home care nursing company in Ontario, Canada. Her boss just texted her out of the blue with the words "you quit" and nothing else. 😱 Talk about abrupt, right?
I’m wondering if any of you have had a similar experience or know of any recourse she can take in this situation? Here’s my two cents on what she can do:
- Consult an Employment Lawyer: It’s always a good idea to get legal advice in situations like these to understand her rights and options.
- Request a Written Explanation: It would be beneficial for her to ask her boss for a written explanation of why she is being told she quit.
- Document Everything: Keeping a record of all communication and events related to this incident can be crucial in any potential dispute.
Any thoughts or advice on how she can navigate this unexpected turn of events? Thanks in advance for your help! 🤔💼 #JobDilemma #WorkplaceConflict #LegalAdvice
I would just ask for clarification. “Pardon? I’m not sure what you mean.” It could have been a mistake. She needs to know for sure before responding any other way.
Show up for the next shift. EI won’t pay out if you quit, so make them fire her. Keep a log of the text and anything else that comes up as she may then get fired ‘for cause’, but the text will show that, at the very least, shenannigans are occurring.
“Nuh uh”
Make sure she saves the texts — don’t delete them.
She should message back to clarify. “Sorry, I don’t know what you mean? I haven’t resigned.”
If he clarifies that he’s firing her, she should wait and see what the boss indicates on her ROE. If he puts down that she quit, dispute it with EI and the Ministry of Labour and use the texts as proof (KEEP THE ORIGINAL TEXTS — NOT JUST SCREENSHOTS). If he indicates that she was terminated, she can file for EI on the basis that she was wrongly terminated.
She should continue to show up for work until he says she’s fired and gives her instructions regarding when her last day will be.
” No, I’m still a valued employee. You must have the wrong number”
Cigarettes? Yea 5 years ago why? Do you need any advice?
“Fuck you, YOU quit!”
The reply should be “Nah, I’m too legit”
Assume a missing question make, and just answer:
> No
And just show up to work as regular.
Just keep on showing up. George from Seinfeld-style.
Sounds like someone wants to avoid seeing someone qualify for unemployment.
Sorry, I think you have the wrong number. This is [Patrick].
