Hey there, 24M here looking for some guidance on what to do next career-wise. Here’s the deal – been working from home for about 1.5 years now and I’m starting to feel like a hermit 🤦🏻♂️. Time to shake things up!
Here are a few things floating around in my head:
– Grad school in computer science 🤔
– Teaching a STEM subject (no high school though) 🍎
– Potentially trying out jobs like construction or bartending 🏗️🍸
I’m craving human interaction and need to break out of this rut. Any suggestions or advice on what path to take would be so helpful! I’m open to anything, just want to get out there and be around people again. This feeling of paranoia has got to go! 🙅🏻♂️
Personally, I think exploring grad school in computer science could be a great fit for you. It aligns with your interest in STEM and could open up a whole new world of possibilities. It’s definitely worth considering! Best of luck on your journey 🚀.
So it sounds like your paranoia stems from a lack of human interaction, have you considered tech sales? I’m in business development myself with a pathway to sales. Considering whether it’s something I really want to get into though as it’s very intense! Good luck with everything.
Have you thought of tutoring? Either freelance or join a tuition centre
I contract with schools right now and honestly, they’re pretty miserable places to work. The teachers tend to be very unhappy. It is an incredibly broken system. Personally, I would absolutely avoid a career that placed me in schools.
I’m transitioning in my agency to a non-school position. I had a relatively easy job in the schools, but the environment is really awful.
Have you thought about doing an activity outside of your full time job that is people-focused where you might be able to find friends to get your social fix?
i’m 25 and have been wfh for 2.5 years now and i understand the feeling. i’ve always been introverted but the few times i’ve traveled or gone out since i got this job i’ve noticed i’m like nervous to be around people, almost scared something is going to happen and i didn’t used to be like that at all. i started going to these gym classes and it’s been helping, also playing tennis. it’s only 1 hour a day but i’m interacting with people and also exercising so it’s been helping my mood a lot. have you considered something like this?
i too have my worries about wfh for too long but when i really think about it, i realize it’s made so many other things easier (including productivity outside of work) that it’s not worth leaving. so if you don’t hate your job aside from the lack of interactions.. maybe check out activities like this near you!
i’ve also been volunteering and that’s also been nice. there’s options outside of leaving your job but of course you know what’s best for you.
OP I left my job 6 months ago because it was remote and I was incredibly social deprived to the point of paranoia. I felt like everyone at my company hated me and I jumped on an offer for a more lucrative role. I’m now trying to find my way back to my old employer because I now realize it was ME not the job. If you work remote, you should always have a social presence outside of work. I know it’s hard but it’s more than likely not that you hate your job, you probably don’t enjoy your life. This is a lesson I had to learn the hard way! Hopefully this story helps a bit
