#FF7Rebirth #PS5 #PS4 #SalesNumbers #GamingIndustry
Hey there! 🎮 Wondering if the reported “disappointing sales numbers” of FF7: Rebirth could be attributed to the difference in PS5 and PS4 ownership? Let’s dive into this intriguing topic and uncover some potential reasons behind the sales figures.
PS5 vs. PS4 Ownership
🕹️ It’s essential to consider the current market landscape when analyzing game sales numbers. With the recent release of the PS5, many gamers are still transitioning from the PS4 to the latest console.
🕹️ Some players may not have upgraded to the PS5 yet due to various reasons, such as availability, pricing, or simply being content with their PS4 gaming experience.
🕹️ The limited availability of the PS5 during its initial release could have also impacted the number of players who could access FF7: Rebirth on the new console.
Impact on Sales Numbers
📈 The difference in PS5 and PS4 ownership could indeed contribute to the reported “disappointing sales numbers” of FF7: Rebirth. The smaller user base on the PS5 compared to the PS4 might result in lower sales figures for the game.
📈 Game developers and publishers often take into account the install base of different gaming consoles when projecting sales numbers for their titles. A smaller user base on the PS5 could lead to lower sales projections.
Other Factors to Consider
🎮 Market Competition: The gaming industry is highly competitive, with many new releases vying for players’ attention. Other factors, such as the release of new games or popular titles, could also affect sales numbers for FF7: Rebirth.
🎮 Marketing and Promotion: The success of a game also depends on the effectiveness of marketing strategies and promotional efforts. The visibility of FF7: Rebirth and its appeal to the target audience play a significant role in driving sales.
🎮 Player Preferences: Ultimately, player preferences and feedback also influence the sales performance of a game. Factors like gameplay mechanics, storylines, and graphics can impact players’ decisions to purchase a title.
In conclusion, while the difference in PS5 and PS4 ownership could contribute to the reported “disappointing sales numbers” of FF7: Rebirth, it’s essential to consider other factors that might influence game sales in the competitive gaming industry. Keep an eye on future updates and sales data to gain a clearer understanding of the game’s performance in the market. 🚀

No PC port no play.
Possibly. Maybe they got the expectation around the PS4/PS5 sales of the previous game. Maybe FF name just got on a downward Trent for 2023 and 2024 since FF16 was also shy of it’s expectations. That can happen
I still only own a PS4. Honestly I was expecting the day to come when I would finally be forced to upgrade but it took a long ass time. Most games were playable on both PS4 and PS5. At this point I am hesitant to upgrade because it feels like a PS5 Pro has to be soon.
Rebirth was the first game I wanted to play that was PS5 only. So to answer your question. Yes, I did not buy or play rebirth solely because I don’t own a PS5.
I’m currently playing the remake and idk if it’s just me or I haven’t given it enough time but it’s pretty meh all around
One thing that turns me off a lot of new games, I know it’s not currently in its best form. Doesn’t matter how good the game is, inevitably it needs patches and/or will see fidelity improvements over time.
I’m also tired of PS5 exclusive games not looking their best, specifically FF games. I bought FF16, but damn was it a muddy mess. The performance mode was just about unplayable and the quality mode even had a lot of artifacting with upscaling being relied on so heavily. If I do eventually play FF7 Rebirth, it’ll be on PC. The PS5 demo showed me muddy textures and that’s just sad on an exclusive game.
It’s an extremely Japanese style game and while I enjoyed it, I was certain frustrated with it. Too many forced mini games with awful controls, not a lot of content outside of doing the same chadley activities in new reigions and each chapter without the chadley hit is like an hour to an hour and half long. The best material is locked behind repetitive combat simulator challenges. I was young enough for the OG FF7 when I was I kid and I played remake and rebirth because of it, but I was a newer generation player without previous engagement of the series hearing in a review about the forced mini games, the chadley stuff and lack of content outside of repetitive content I would 100% skip.
Temporary PS5 exclusive that’s a direct sequel of another game with a 3rd game promised down the pipeline. Keep in mind that FF7 Remake had the install base of a very mature PS4 and was released about a month into the pandemic, and was considered relatively successful at 3.5 millions units/3 days. I can’t imagine Rebirth was going to top Remake when Remake was at peak conditions.
Few things.
1) I wouldn’t expect any games to release on both PS4 and PS5 anymore. It’s been four years since PS5 came out, it’s not cross gen time anymore.
2) We don’t have official sales numbers yet. What people are comparing is squares sale numbers from remake they announced themselves much later to active players since launch. Those are not equal values you can compare, there are other factors like people who bought it and haven’t played it or parents who perhaps bought it for holidays.
3) It’s not as bad as people are saying, some guy report half the sales but even using the bad numbers above, it was 2.2 mil active and 3.1 mil sold of remake. That’s 2/3 the sales on a SEQUEL that requires you play a previous game. That’s not bad at all. It’s also 200 mil in revenue…
4) Stop trusting gaming “media” so much. They’ve made progress turning it into legitimate journalism, but the vast majority of it is still built around building engagement through controversy, because gamers are reactive little kids most the time.
The FF7 Remake also came out on PS4 right at the start of Covid lockdowns, which definitely influenced its sales numbers
You’re missing out. Rebirth might be one of the best games I’ve ever played since the original FFVII.
It’s not on pc or Xbox, that’s why the numbers are low.
PC guy here waiting on steam release
The game is fantastic. Reasons why sales are not that great:
1. Currently a PS5 exclusive.
2. Second part in a three-part series. If you haven’t played the first part, it makes no sense to purchase Rebirth.
3. Some people might be waiting for a future trilogy release, where you get all three games for one reduced price.
For me, I would need to buy a PS5, and buy several games
For the past, what, 30 years or so I have been waiting for A remake. It is just not appealing to me you know that it is broken down in parts? And you cannot carry over your complete saves? (At least from my limited knowledge).
My RPG style is super completionist and grindy, not feeling like doing that 3 times starting from scratch.
Who knows, when I retire and I have time and less money anxiety, why not.
it’s because square enix took the smart “not” to make it exclusive to ps5. this game should be sold on xbox and pc day one, it would have been sold much more.
look at capcom, it does release their games on xbox/pc/ps5 and their games sell by millions.
yes third party studios exclusives need to end for good, it’s a thing from the past.
I’m no stranger to buying a console just for 1 game, but a ps4 for 1/3, ps5 for 2/3, and possibly ps6 for 3/3.
Ridiculous.
Watching playthrough on YouTube.
I didn’t like the story change in part 1 so I didn’t grab part 2. I am sure I am in a minority for why some one wouldn’t pick up part 2 though.
Anecdotal, but I was really looking forward to the first game and purchase it on day one. It was great and all but the novelty wore off and I’m too busy for the 2nd one.
I feel like there’s been very limited marketing for this game too. I didn’t even realize it existed until someone posted a screenshot here like a week ago
Yes. Period.
No
Are the sales numbers really that surprising? I really don’t understand why they think a tight story broken up across multiple games would result in high continued sales.
I got the first one but still haven’t completed, and I might not ever complete it. Why would I go out and buy the sequel? It seems unreasonable for the sequel to sell the same as the original, it will always be less than.
Same situation with me. I love the FF series, but Revirth and 16 both are completely off my radar. I have a PC, last Gen consoles, and Switch. Not in a situation where I can drop that kind of money for a console.
It probably had more to do with it coming out around the start of the Covid lockdowns
The original was released on the PS4 during COVID.
Im a long time FF fan having played og 7 as a kid, i think Rebirth lacks the essence of the original. Theres really no exploring other than finding chadley intel, theres no mysteries and no secrets to find. No secret super bosses to beat. How cool was it to find a new summon in the og? Now you just get one for each zone, and you get it through the friggin simulator. Its just the same repetitive stuff again and again, with story parts in between. I really wanted to love this game, but imo it falls flat like xvi does. Im still gonna finish it with about 100hrs in at chapter 13.
In my experience I had a few friends who would have called themselves “huge ff7 fans” enough to talk about the nostalgia of the first game, enough to play “the” remake but not enough to buy two consoles, wait 7 years, replay the first game +a yuufie dlc on pc then consider buying a ps5 that otherwise lacks any ps5 exclusive games just to play part 2 of 3 of a 30 hour game they thought was the best thing ever when we were 6-8 years old
They’ll probably pick it up on pc in a few years when it goes on sale but splitting it into 3 games killed it for a lot of people, let alone across generations and not releasing on pc every time
I didn’t like FF7 Remake so I have no interest in buying Rebirth.
I’m definitely waiting for the PS5 Pro and I’m sure I’m not the only one. It was a solid move during the PS4 era and I assume it will be once again.
Another reason is that most people don’t finish video games, so breaking a remake up into multiple games means everyone that bought FF7 but never left Midgard can be fully satisfied without finishing Remake.
Also, calling part 1 just “Remake” is weird as it’s really “Remake: Part 1” and Rebirth is “Remake: Part 2”. Lots of google hits trying to figure out the difference between Remake and Rebirth so the confusion is real. Weird Japanese naming conventions strike again.
Maybe they didn’t want to get the same crap that they did for Kingdom Hearts naming and numbering: Kingdom Hearts II.75 and 5/8ths Michelob Ultra Zero Calorie Final Remix Super Remix 5th Final Edition MAX. It’s notable that the titles get so much attention for being terrible when the story is absolutely nonsensical.
Can’t speak for everyone, but at least I don’t own a PS4 or 5. PC only.
I would have bought Nintendo and Playstation games if they were on PC.
I still have yet to see a reason for the PS5 to exist.
I own a PS5 and I won’t be buying it because I know it will eventually come to PC. Same with ff16. I want to play them but I can wait.
For me it’s that they are trying to add this weird ‘fate’ storyline.
I wanted to play the original, just with new graphics. Messing with the storyline is annoying and I don’t really want to have to wonder ‘was this in the original’.
That is certainly the case for me. I don’t want to shell out $500 just to play FF VII. Waiting for it to drop on PC
Because it’s asinine the way they scheduled the release. When I was a kid it was one game. Now they split it up into 3, and by the time they finish the third part, the 1st one will be so outdated it will require another remaster. SMH
Stick it on Xbox you cowards.
Only reason why I haven’t played it. I have not switched to a 5 yet.
Not having a PS5 is literally the only reason I didn’t buy. Just gonna wait on PC port in a year or w/e now, same as with FF16
im waiting for PC, it sounded like this one had a much shorter timeline to make it off the ps5 so im waiting
