Are you frustrated with the lack of results from your SEO efforts despite spending a significant amount of money? You’re not alone. Many businesses have experienced the same disappointment, but the good news is that there are common mistakes that can be easily rectified to see significant improvements in your website’s traffic and conversions.
### The Expensive SEO Mistakes:
It’s disheartening to hear that some SEO agencies are taking advantage of their clients by charging exorbitant fees and delivering subpar results. One common tactic is purchasing backlinks from unreliable sources such as Fiverr, which ultimately lead to spammy and detrimental backlinks that need to be disavowed.
### What You Can Do Instead:
Instead of wasting thousands of dollars on ineffective tactics, here are some simple yet effective SEO strategies that can significantly boost your website’s traffic and conversions:
1. **Target Different Keywords and Search Intents**: Each landing page should focus on specific keywords and search intents to avoid confusing search engines and users. Don’t be afraid to create multiple landing pages to address different target keywords and intents.
2. **Avoid Low-Quality Link Building**: Instead of turning to Fiverr for link building, invest in high-quality backlinks from reputable sources to ensure long-term success and avoid potential penalties from search engines.
3. **Optimize Headings**: Properly optimize your headings (H1, H2, H3) to clearly communicate the most important information to search engines, making it easier for them to understand the relevance and hierarchy of your content.
4. **Disavow Spammy Backlinks**: Regularly monitor your backlink profile using tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush and promptly disavow any spammy or irrelevant backlinks to protect your website’s authority and reputation.
5. **Implement HREFLANG for Multilingual Sites**: If your website caters to multiple languages, implementing HREFLANG tags is crucial to ensure search engines correctly display the most relevant language version to users.
6. **Optimize Titles and Meta Descriptions**: Craft compelling and relevant titles and meta descriptions for each page to improve click-through rates and attract more qualified traffic to your website.
### Real Results Speak Louder Than Empty Promises:
Despite the astronomical fees charged by some SEO agencies, you may be surprised to learn that with the right strategies, tangible results can be achieved with minimal effort and investment.
For example, I recently worked with a client who had been spending a considerable amount on SEO with little to show for it. With just 20 hours of work, I was able to double their traffic and conversions, proving that effective SEO doesn’t always require a hefty budget.
### Conclusion:
In conclusion, it’s essential to be cautious when investing in SEO services and to be aware of the common pitfalls that can hinder your website’s growth. By implementing the right strategies, such as targeted keyword optimization, high-quality link building, and meticulous on-page optimization, you can achieve significant improvements in your website’s traffic and conversions without breaking the bank.

I’d love to know more about optimizing for multiple languages and why you think it’s essential for SaaS. What about customer support?
following
Good comments but the go local thing- that’s a conversation you need to have with the company in detail, because localized marketing necessitates localized customer care (if you sign up 10% German customers they need to have German speaking agents, documentation, systems if needs be).
This will need time to implement and you need to make sure they have operational bandwidth or financial headroom to address this. Otherwise it can get gnarly. I worked at a company that told me to go hard after DACH and boy did I, and they realized quickly they had no way of servicing those customers and managing those relationships and they burned through what should have been a sticky and committed pile of business.
But yes your point is good, that English is way more competitive in SEO than other languages. Just gotta prep your client for that scaling of segment.
lmao.
Maybe I am misreading, but a common mistake companies make is “Optimize titles and metadescriptions?”
Am I missing something?
Very few agencies know how to break down the details of SEO. They just have general knowledge. They probably thought they would be able to make a change on your company through general seo competence
Thanks for sharing! How did you connect with this client, or did they come to you?
I would love to know what I could do better.

So questions:
1. How important are image descriptions?
2. How important are internal links?
3. I’m using wordpress and Yoast SEO, where you set a focus keyword. Can I create one page for multiple keywords or should I get a page for every keyword? And Should I create multiple pages for the same keyword?
It’s so common unfortunately. Makes it hard for the legit SEO guys to offer a good service because the scammer companies burnt them with black hat nonsense.
Very common, when I onboard new SEO clients I spend time educating them on good SEO vs bs SEO
I guess self-promotion is ok now?
How do you find a trusted agency for a small D2C consumer startup?
Thank you for your insights. May I ask why 7? I always wondered if it is not THE thing that makes a good ctr? Should they not at least fit the character length?
As a sole entrepreneur, small consulting company, what resources would you recommend to help improve the seo?
We use squarespace.
I’m stealing so many customers to agencies asking 3-4k a month for youtube ads only cause I ask 15% of total ad spent instead.
Retainers at the end if you dont have at least a 10X roas or spend huge amounts are a scam.
The last customer was spending 2.5k a month on ads and 3k for the agency. Embarassing
Most SEO companies send their clients convoluted reports that make it look like what they’re doing is impactful. The only thing that matters is relevant traffic. There are tools to boost traffic with bots. You should be receiving Search Engine Results Page reports and Search Query Performance reports. This will break down the specific searches that you’re being found for. They should also be tracking conversions. Let me know if you have more questions.
I found very difficult to have my niche-ish, low converting website anywhere into Google.
I am playing the long game on this one and I am very much ok with it having low conversions as long as I get traffic. But I am not getting anywhere.
(The idea is to optimise conversion later on when I would be able to monetize it better.)
If someone wants to help fell free to drop me a DM.
How do you disavow spammy bot links?
Thanks for sharing this. I have been hesitant in hiring SEO agency, this post confirmed it. Of course not all agencies are like this but it sucks to have your domain rep rekt. There should be a clause in the agreements for this
lamao i charged 2 clients for seo just 2k/month help them setup everything they discontinued the service after making them 2x-3x the amount yet i am not able to get clients(now i shut down my agency ) , cause it too costly for business in my country
That’s why I don’t use it. I see no point in this. I tried backlinks, just to see what it’s all about. I found it spammy, unreliable and unrealistic. I could not figure out if there ever would be good quality backlinks. Time consuming rabbit hole.
As always: no proof, just generic words
Personally I know more people that spend such ridiculous monthly amounts on SEO that don’t get any results, compared to the people I know who spend on SEO and get any results.
Most of the time an agency will take you for the long ride. Why would they make your site NR 1 on google ? so you can fire them ? no sir! they will leech onto your business providing measly fake traffic for a shitton of money each month constantly nagging you that you need to invest more for a bigger and longer lasting impact ..which is nuts and a lie and the opposite of how good SEO should work and be done. Good SEO should be a once per year investment maybe not a monthly bill.
Did ChatGPT write this, because it’s all over the place
In my experience, the goal is never traffic. The goal is customer conversations, leads, new business, revenue, etc. Agencies always want to throw high volume at you. “look we are doing something you are getting traffic”. It is not traffic you want, it is customers. In my experience with agencies at a Fortune 100 company, I constantly removed keywords and channels to focus on the traffic that was best for my business/project. Its okay to start with a niche and build new niches on top of that. It is the only way to truly get results.
Can you elaborate HREFLANG, and why you suggest against it?
SEO services are packed full of lazy scammers. It’s become too risky to invest in these services in a lot of cases unless you know people yourself and have technical knowledge to double check their work.
You don’t need to disallow spam unless you are notified in GSC. Google isn’t that dumb, you can’t tank your competitors’ ranking by buying them spammy links. Google will ignore spam links and not penalize for it.
i will provide you best pakege in only $5
Pathetic. As the tech bros whine/humblebrag “we’re bootstrapped,“ so we don’t have any money to get our fundamentals right. Gross.
