#CareerChange #JobSatisfaction #WorkLifeBalance
Hey everyone! 👋 Have you ever chosen a career just for the paycheck or convenience, rather than following your passion? How did that work out for you? I’m currently at a crossroads in my career as a dental technician, and I’m considering making a switch to a more brain-stimulating job that offers flexibility to work from home.
I’ve been advised to take a course in a high-demand field like data analysis, even though it’s not something I’m particularly passionate about. Before making a decision, I would love to hear from those who have made a similar career change for better pay, work-life balance, or remote work. Did you end up finding satisfaction in your new role, or do you regret making the switch?
Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated! 🤔 And if you have any tips on how to navigate a career change, please share them below for everyone’s benefit. Let’s help each other out on this journey to finding fulfillment in our work! 🌟
I chose data analytics then into data science due to wanting money. My passion is education. My plan was to teach my whole life. It turns out an AP calculus teacher in the Midwest makes 32000$ right out of college. I lasted one semester. I quit and got my PHD and then went into data and make over 200k. Money for sure buys happiness. I don’t hate my job but it’s not my passion. I get to enjoy my life outside of work because I can afford to do whatever I want.
I’m very money motivated. Kinda fell into sales, got good at it, made good money, learned to enjoy it. I’m an introvert, hate talking on the phone, and would otherwise prefer some type of role that doesn’t depend on heavy people interaction. But the more I make, the sooner I can retire.
If I could go back I would pursue a career in data.
I agree with taking courses in a field with a lot of demand but you still have to be somewhat interested in it. If you aren’t comfortable with dealing with large volumes of data and have an ability to quickly identify trends and outliers data analytics may not be the field for you.
I work with data but we have a couple of people on my team who are REALLY talented at it. I am good at it, but not super talented. Their brains are wired to organize numbers in a way I don’t think can be taught. They are massively valuable hence the pay.
You are still young, what else are you interested in? I switched from science to business, do I regret it? Yeah, at times I do, I miss using my nerdy side. Business does pay better and easier to get jobs.
