Understanding Credit Card Chargebacks:
– Chargebacks are a consumer protection mechanism when goods or services are not delivered as promised
– Credit card companies consider evidence from both the consumer and the business before making a decision
Strategies for Successful Refund Resolution:

– Explain the discrepancy between the promised refund and the amount received
– Seek assistance from consumer protection agencies or legal resources if needed
Amex is generally very good with disputes, if you provided that secondary evidence I’ll be surprised if they don’t side with you. In the future though honestly don’t try and work with businesses over a text that says please issue a full refund as I didnt purchase this service and if that’s not an instant reversal go the chargeback route.
That is very shady. Offering a refund via Zelle is also shady. I’d report that business to the authorities (local and state), as they’re probably fleecing lots of people this way.
Do you have evidence of booking the $150 service? Credit card companies really don’t like when merchants bait and switch like that.
You prepaid for a car detailing service? Why?
>Their shady business practices and terms of service, or their word to give me a full refund?
Verbal or even text communication does not override T&C, which you agreed to when making the payment. Unless you can prove that you paid for a $150 service, aka an invoice, they are enforcing their T&C.
Next time this happens dispute the charge first with Amex. Then, it’s on the vendor to provide a copy of the invoice for $200.
Was this a car detailing service that posted on Facebook and used stock pictures like the rest of them? Imo, if you are worried about $75(?), you should go to an actual business or a real car detailing service or just clean the car yourself.
I’m not familiar with Amex’ chargeback rules but big question is this – did you use the service? Did you receive the detailing? Or did you cancel prior to the service having been rendered. If you used the service then typically there’s no dispute right and this becomes a billing/price discrepancy which isn’t usually a dispute right. Again let me stress that I’m not familiar with Amex rules. But I would be concerned that they didn’t just do a partial refund back to the card used.
It’s time to roast this business on social media.
