Hey everyone! I really need to vent and get some advice. 😩
So, here’s the situation: I’m feeling like a complete idiot right now. I interviewed for two clinic jobs—being a nurse, I had my eyes set on clinic #2, which is my absolute dream job! 🌟 However, after interviewing, I only heard back from clinic #1, and in my panic to secure a job, I accepted their offer. The fear of being unemployed really kicked in.
Then, just a few days ago, I got a call from clinic #2 offering me the position I really wanted! 🙌 The pay is better, the hours are ideal, and it’s everything I’ve been looking for. But here’s the kicker: I’ve already accepted the offer from clinic #1.
Feeling torn, I asked some people what I should do. They advised me to show up on my first day at clinic #1 to see if I liked it. Big mistake! 😵 This place is way too fast-paced for me—it’s more like a small ER than a calm clinic. I actually left my last job because of that hectic environment due to my health issues. So without even considering clinic #2, I realized I’m just not a fit for clinic #1 at all.
When I shared my concerns with the folks who advised me, they responded with, “Oh man, we were really hoping you’d love it because we aren’t fans of clinic #2 for personal reasons.” Seriously? 😤
Now I’m stuck! I regret not telling clinic #1 no right away. Living in a small town where everyone knows each other makes this even harder; I fear that I’ll lose my chance at clinic #2 because I didn’t wait. And on top of that, I feel terrible thinking about the effort they might put into training me, only for me to leave. But I know that even without job #2, I don’t want to stay at clinic #1.
So here I am, totally lost! 😩 Any suggestions on how to handle this mess? Have any of you faced a similar situation? It would be great to hear your stories or any tips you might have!
Tell them now. Sorry, this place really is not a good fit.
Then sign on to #2.
You can talk to clinic #2 and sincerely express your interest.
They somewhat dropped the ball and waited too long to send you an offer. Nurses are in demand and they have to compete for talent.
You would be a fool not to take the other job. Call the other job and accept and let your current job know it’s not a good fit. You have to look out for yourself and your own future. If it was the other way around and they had to cut someone, they would drop you like a sack of potatoes.
Tell them it is not what you expected and it’s not a good fit.
Then, go to Clinic #2 (it’s YOUR dream job, your advisors’ opinions are just that).
Congratulations on 2 job offers!
I think the fact that you went to the first day makes this much better. You are absolutely allowed to quit.
Always do what’s best for yourself
Tell clinic 2 you accept, and tell clinic 1 that after your first day, you realized it’s not a good fit. Sometimes that’s just how it goes.
Seriously you describe clinic 2 as your dream job…so what the hell are confused about.
Accept job#2. Then quit #1. It really is that easy.
You have a cooling off period in any job, it’s usually around 3 months. Go to your second job, if you like it better, quit your first one. Employers understand that not everyone is a good fit, that’s why there are cooling off periods.
Nobody will care and they will understand. Don’t sweat it. Accept Job 2. Sign job 2. Then call job 1 and tell them you are leaving. The fewer explanations, the better. Just thank them for the opportunity.
The thing with new jobs, you get a probation period.
That works both ways, you can leave or they can fire you.
