#Michigan #SalaryLaw #EmploymentRights
Hey everyone! 👋 Have any of you heard about a Michigan law that supposedly forces employers to switch employees from salary to hourly pay if the salary is deemed “too small”? 🤔
I recently found out from my employer that my salary of 32k (originally told 36k) is apparently too low according to this law, leading to all of us being switched to hourly pay. I also receive an 8% commission after hitting certain profit milestones each year, which has now been affected by this change.
I’m curious to know if this is actually a legit law in Michigan or if my employer is just using it as an excuse to cut costs. Any insights or experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated!
Possible solution to this situation:
– Reach out to the Michigan Department of Labor for clarification
– Discuss the situation with a legal professional to understand your rights
– Consider negotiating with your employer for fair compensation that aligns with your contributions
Thanks in advance for all your help and support! 🌟 Let’s navigate this together and empower each other with knowledge! 💪
There is a new federal Department of Labor law which goes into effect July 1. A simplified explanation is Salaried employees must earn at least 43,888 per year or they must be paid OT. Sounds like they have decided to make all of you hourly and you will now be paid OT.
Yes. It’s federal law that is changing.

There is no reason you cannot get commission and an hourly salary with overtime. All that is happening is they have to pay you for the hours you work and pay time and a half over 40.
If someone told me I was being forced to be Hourly I would be thrilled. I work about 50 hours a week and so 10 OT hours sounds amazing.
You come across as upset, but do you realize it’s not a bad thing and considered a very employee friendly law?
This has happened to my son. He is going to start some malicious intent. Mandatory meeting on Friday but he’s already put in 40 hours by Thursday, well he’s skipping that meeting and heading for the golf course.
