🔬 Today I learned that since the year 2000, 5 new elements have been added to the periodic table! It’s incredible to think that the 7th row of the periodic table is finally filled. In this article, we will explore these new elements and what they mean for the world of chemistry.
### The Discovery of New Elements
In the world of chemistry, the discovery of new elements is a rare and exciting event. It often involves extensive research and collaboration among scientists from around the globe. Here are the 5 new elements that have been added to the periodic table since 2000:
1. **Ununtrium (Uut)**
– Discovered in 2003 at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Russia.
– It has an atomic number of 113 and is a synthetic element.
2. **Ununpentium (Uup)**
– Discovered in 2004 at the Dubna Laboratory in Russia.
– It has an atomic number of 115 and is also a synthetic element.
3. **Ununseptium (Uus)**
– Discovered in 2010 at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Russia.
– It has an atomic number of 117 and is a synthetic element.
4. **Ununoctium (Uuo)**
– Discovered in 2002 at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Russia.
– It has an atomic number of 118 and is a synthetic element.
5. **Tennessine (Ts)**
– Discovered in 2010 at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the United States.
– It has an atomic number of 117 and is also a synthetic element.
### What Does This Mean for Chemistry?
The addition of these new elements to the periodic table is a significant advancement in the field of chemistry. It expands our understanding of the elements and how they interact with one another. Scientists can now conduct more research and experiments to further explore the properties and uses of these new elements.
### The Future of Chemistry
With the periodic table now complete up to the 7th row, scientists are already looking ahead to the future of chemistry. There is ongoing research to discover even more new elements and expand our knowledge of the building blocks of the universe.
### Conclusion
In conclusion, the addition of 5 new elements to the periodic table since 2000 is a monumental achievement in the world of chemistry. It opens up new possibilities for research and discovery, paving the way for future advancements in the field. As we continue to push the boundaries of science, who knows what incredible discoveries lie ahead in the world of chemistry!

did Tom Lehrer update the song before he retired?
So does that mean there are no other possible elements?
BINGO!
Finally!
Who’s the shadiest element?
You’re welcome, Mandeleev
’90s kids remember it going Hydrogen to Meitnerium
There is a book called “Superheavy” that discusses the search for these elements and why it is more important than just trivia
I’m ready for periodic table 2 to come out already
No Vibranium yet eh? /s
Too lazy to read the article.
Is the fifth element Milla Jovovich?
I’m gonna recommend you all watch a YouTube essay about a physicist who attempted to fake the discovery of multiple elements while working at UC Berkeley in the late 90s.
[The man who tried to fake an element by BobbyBroccoli](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe5WT22-AO8)
Unobtanium was finally obtained.
They really screwed up in naming element 115 Moscovium. It should have been named Lazarium after Bob Lazar who claimed this was the element used to elevate and pilot alien spacecraft he worked on in Area 51.
For the oganesson (atomic number 118) first synthesized in 2002
>as of 2020, only five atoms have been successfully produced
I’m glad they’re still adding elements to the table, periodically.
We got closer to that island of stability with the super heavy elements?
This is why I facepalm whenever someone brings up how ‘impressive’ it was that Bob Lazar predicted element 115. Yes Bob, 115 comes after 114, which comes after 113, and so on. Very impressive.
Of course said Lazarians never bring up the fact that all of the elements qualities that he predicted ended up being way off
My favorite element? The element of surprise!
Period. It’s the 7th period
Y. Oganessian and co responsible for basically all of em!
This is thread talking about a theoretical super heavy stable atom is the plot to Iron Man 2
I have a periodic table poster that I bought when Oganesson was confirmed. It’s extremely satisfying to have a big table with zero gaps.
Are any of the heavy elements atoms? Or just the nuclei? Seems like some of them decay too fast for an electron shells to fill
*I learned something today*
Plus there’s that one Tony Stark synthesized in 2010
