Hey everyone! 👋 Have you ever experienced something at work that made you question your safety and well-being? I need some advice on how to handle a situation that’s been bothering me.
So, here’s the deal: my manager thought it would be funny to blast an airhorn right next to my head as a “joke,” and now I’m experiencing some issues with my hearing. 😞 I’m worried that this could have a long-lasting impact on my ability to hear properly.
I really enjoy my job, but I need to address this before it gets worse. Any suggestions on how to handle this delicate situation would be greatly appreciated! Here’s what I’m thinking so far:
– Schedule a meeting with HR to discuss the incident and your concerns 🗓️
– Consider seeking medical attention to assess the damage to your hearing 🩺
– Document everything that happened for future reference 📝
Any other tips or insights you can share? Let’s help each other navigate through challenging workplace situations like this one! 🙌 #WorkplaceWellness #EmployeeRights
Go get medical attention. Tell them it’s a workplace injury. You are asking a step three question when you’re only at step one.
Please please please check that out. You might get permanent damage so it’s wise to have it recorded in medical papers
Depends what state you are in, but this would constitute a workers comp claim. HR would help with that.
Get in to see an Audiologist (AuD, not a MD, not a HIS) *immediately*. When calling tell them briefly what happened, they’ll get you in fast. This is not a joking matter, permanent hearing loss/damage is a very real possibility here.
Workers comp. It happened at work by (someone in) your work. Go to the ER or Urgent Care and state it’s a Workers Comp case. Also file an injury report with HR so there is a record of exactly what happened so they can’t try to retaliate against the workplace claim. If other employees witnessed this X I would have them write a brief witness report for the HR file as well, to cover your butt from the manager trying to lie or claim some other reasoning behind doing this.
File a workers compensation claim immediately and go get checked out.
You need to see an audiologist now and document that this happened with your workplace. This could be a worker’s comp. issue.
Definitely worker’s comp issue, but may also be assault I’d file a police report as well as getting checked out as soon as possible.
This happened to my father-in-law. He was a dispatcher and the drivers went on strike. Company hired a transportation company to handle shipments during the strike. He was on the phone coordinating a shipment when one of the drivers snuck into the office and blew an air horn in his ear. He lost a significant portion of his hearing in that ear and ended up on disability.
