Or they can bring their own books. and toys. and stuff.
I have a toy box that has a few things in it for a variety of ages, including books. I made it slowly over time, when I’d see cheap stuff at garage sales.
There’s no WAY I would hand a toddler a library book that I was responsible for.
Or buy them some books they can take home? Who wants to read part of a book?
In the ideal world, parents SHOULD bring toys/books/ drawing/coloring supplies, etc. to occupy their kids; In my experience, most parents do not.
Good hosts/hostesses should be prepared to “entertain” all of their guests: If you know your guests are going to bring their children, it’s a good idea to have toys/books/drawing/coloring supplies, etc. for whenever parents haven’t brought their kid’s own entertainment with them.
Be sure to ask your library’s children’s staff for age appropriate recommendations. If you have a special relationship with the child, add a little “ticket” saying you’ll set aside xx minutes of reading the books with them at bedtime.
Because children want to read books. With paper.
And because adult that are traveling want to take the time for all of that.
This is a solid tip! It’s a nice thing to do.
