Were you allowed to copy and paste? Look at documentation? Just because they record that doesn’t mean you weren’t allowed to. Years ago I may have been able to do that from memory, but being able to refer to web stuff docs is a skill on its own.
I would’ve started and read the task, looked up a bunch of stuff, then switched back and wrote it. If you’re familiar with the DOM and basic JS that wouldn’t be too bad, so yes there’s a set of topics you could’ve been familiar with beforehand, but if you really were familiar with that to write from memory you can write much more powerful stuff.
Go for companies that look at your methods not the end result.
Yes you were unprepared. U should get a 2nd laptop and use chatGPT, the camera can’t tell if there’s a laptop behind your monitor lol. And so you know, all swe copy and paste existing code, nobody has time to code from scratch. As long as you understand the syntax and the concept, that’s all it matters.
create a table 3×3 using html codeChatGPTChatGPT
Sure, here’s a simple HTML code to create a 3×3 table:
htmlCopy code
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang=”en”>
<head>
<meta charset=”UTF-8″>
<meta name=”viewport” content=”width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0″>
<title>3×3 Table</title>
</head>
<body>
<table border=”1″>
<tr>
<td>Row 1, Column 1</td>
<td>Row 1, Column 2</td>
<td>Row 1, Column 3</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Row 2, Column 1</td>
<td>Row 2, Column 2</td>
<td>Row 2, Column 3</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Row 3, Column 1</td>
<td>Row 3, Column 2</td>
<td>Row 3, Column 3</td>
</tr>
</table>
</body>
</html>
Kind of weird to be honest, it’s not like you’re barred from looking up stuff on the job.
80 minute test seems too much lmao
Sun West Mortgage? I had the same thing a month or so ago, shut it down immediately after finding out they filmed it
I feel it. My woven test submitted (ran out of time) and it didn’t even compile damn
Sweet cheese and crackers, that is the most idiotic test system I’ve ever heard of in close to two decades of programming. No copy paste? Can’t leave the window? What. The. Fuck. That’s like asking a violinist to play the violin but with the violin attached to a chair so they have to sit in one position and can only move their arm in one plane. I’m a Vim guy and find it almost impossible to write code in anything but Vim. If I had to point and click and mouse around I’d probably just leave after 30 seconds. OP, you dodged a bullet. Regarding stupid testing criteria: https://youtu.be/_AoCK5r2TWg
It does seem like an entirely trivial problem. So, yes, I’d say you were utterly unprepared. There’s a whole other question of whether or not you want to work at this place.
But, if you can’t convert some strings with numbers (assuming it was your choice of language or a language you said you know) into an HTML table, that’s…pretty damn bad.
I have no idea of the working culture, etc, or the test, but putting those issues aside and concentrating on the competency issue itself, yes, this is a very poor showing.
What was the issue? String parsing? HTML table creation? General logic? Forgot all the syntax and the standard library? How do you want us to evaluate if you don’t tell us what the issue was?
Seems like you wanted people to focus on the environmental factors, and utterly disregard the task. Forget that it was in an interview. Aren’t you slightly ashamed at all that you can’t solve that problem?
I’ve got 20 years of experience and I’d be a deer in headlights trying to do this without Google in 80 minutes.
