#CareerAdvice #JobSeeking #EntrepreneurshipGoals
Hey everyone, I wanted to open up a discussion about starting your career later in life. I came across a post from someone who is 28 and has never had a job due to personal circumstances. They have a strong educational background but are feeling behind in life and struggling to enter the job market. Here are a few thoughts and possible solutions:
– Utilize networking: Reach out to professors, alumni, friends, and professionals in your field for job leads and advice. Networking can open doors and help you secure a job opportunity.
– Consider internships or volunteer work: Gain practical experience and build your resume by taking on internships or volunteering in your desired field. This can help you showcase your skills and passion to potential employers.
– Explore entrepreneurship: If you dream of being an entrepreneur, start by developing a business plan and seeking mentorship from successful entrepreneurs. Consider starting a small venture or freelancing to gain experience and confidence in running your own business.
– Focus on self-care: Your mental health is important. Prioritize self-care practices such as therapy, exercise, hobbies, and spending time with supportive friends and family. Taking care of yourself will help you stay motivated and focused on your goals.
Remember, everyone’s journey is unique, and it’s never too late to pursue your career goals. Stay positive, keep pushing forward, and believe in your potential. What are your thoughts on this? Any additional advice or words of encouragement for someone in this situation? Let’s discuss and support each other! 🌟 #CareerGrowth #PersonalDevelopment
Start small. Just get an entry level job somewhere and get some workplace experience.
I had a very late in life start not too dissimilar from yours. I can’t say I have found my path, but I can tell you that it does get better if you start doing something — anything. I had very little work history, but a hotel took a chance on me and I made 70k my first year bartending. I took a leap of faith in myself and it was completely life changing. Now, Im a 32 year old bartender, which isn’t my dream, but its allowed me the confidence to continue to present myself with new challenges to overcome.
Continue to stress test yourself, in order to find something you enjoy. I experienced so much trauma in my younger years that it was incredibly difficult to endure any stress for a long time. I found EMDR to be helpful.
I would encourage you to start from the inside out and utilize resources online that address complex trauma, if you are unable to recieve low or no cost psychiatric treatment to strengthen your cognitive muscles and prepare you for on-the-job stressors. Best of luck to you and my DMs are always open.
Forget entrepreneurship for now. Focus on gaining employment. What branch of engineering did you study?
Entry level jobs in technical sales within large engineering firms would be a good starting point.
Getting something small like waiting tables, or washing dishes, or literally anything entry level for your degree would be good for you.
I hate work.. but if I didn’t work then I’d probably be depressed too. It’s good for you 🙂 Good luck!!
