Hey there, fellow HR pros! 🌟
I’m reaching out because I’m feeling pretty burnt out in my current role after five years in HR at a large corporate organization. My job is primarily corporate-facing, and while I’m the go-to person for our site, I hardly get any time with the employees themselves. Honestly? It’s starting to wear on me.
I’ve been thinking a lot about my next step, but I’m stuck. The straightforward move would be to aim for an HR manager position, but the opportunities I’m finding just aren’t exciting or financially viable. Taking a pay cut? Not an option. 💔
Here’s where it gets tricky:
- Limited Employee Interaction: Not being able to connect with employees makes it feel like my work lacks real impact.
- Soul-Sucking Tasks: Those corporate reporting and project tasks can feel so detached from adding actual value.
- Career Compass Issues: I’m good with HRIS and have a keen interest in the legal aspects of HR, but I can’t quite figure out if pursuing a master’s in employment law would be worth it.
So, I’m curious—has anyone else felt this way? Did you find a successful pivot from one part of HR to another? I’d love to hear your stories and any tips you might have! 😊
Possible Solutions:
- Networking: Reach out to others in HR fields you’re interested in. Sometimes the best opportunities come from a conversation!
- Skill Development: Consider taking online courses related to HRIS or employment law. It could open up new doors without the huge commitment of a master’s program.
- Exploring Different Roles: Look for HR roles that allow for more employee interaction, like employee relations or talent acquisition. 🎯
Ultimately, I just want to figure out where to go from here. If you’ve ever taken a leap in your HR career, please share your experiences. What worked for you? What didn’t? Let’s help each other out!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! 🗣️
I am in HR Technology and we hire practitioners for HCM SE roles all the time, in all the niches (recruiting, payroll, benefits, etc.). I mentor people trying to transition but just an fyi, this market sucks (as you probably know).
Just keep poking away with applications and try to ride out the market until it gets better
What is your current role?
I thought maybe moving into an HRBP since you are definitely more hands-on with the business and can see real value, plus you can work pretty closely with the Legal team on HR matters, so it could be a nice place to make a pivot towards. But you are very visible in that role, which isn’t a bad thing, but you are the eyes and ears essentially for the org(s) you represent.
