#WorkLifeBalance #MentalHealth #CareerStruggles
Hey everyone, I recently started a new job and I’m already feeling completely overwhelmed and unhappy. I have a history of mental illness and it’s making it hard for me to cope with the demands of my new job. I’ve been struggling to stay motivated and I feel like I’m stuck in a rut. 😞
I know I’m not alone in feeling this way, so I wanted to reach out and see if anyone has any advice on how to make a job more enjoyable? Or do you think I should just give up and try to apply for disability? I really want to pursue my dreams of a music or art career, but it feels impossible right now.
Here are a few things I’ve been considering to try and make my job more manageable:
– Talk to my supervisor about my struggles and see if there are any accommodations that can be made
– Seek out therapy or counseling to help me work through my mental health challenges
– Take small breaks throughout the day to reset and re-energize
– Focus on the positives of my job and try to find joy in the things I do enjoy about it
I know it’s tough, but I believe there are ways to make any job more bearable. Let’s support each other and share our tips and tricks for finding happiness and fulfillment in our work lives. 💪 #YouAreNotAlone
Dude take a breath. You’re only 20 years old. I didn’t start to get my life together until I was 25. I think you need some antidepressants. Trust me life is a grind but you will find your place. Keep working and progressing man. You got this.
You FEEL it’s not bad enough to be on permanent disability? So have you been evaluated by a Dr recently? Are you on meds to relieve some your symptoms or have had any blood work done recently?
Do you spend time a lot of time gaming or on social media? If so, you’re only hurting yourself.
I heard last night on NPR that the more time a teen spends in front of a screen the greater their chances of severe depression.
Go for a walk. Sit outside and make music. Staying in bed all day and not paying rent isn’t serving your best interests. Call your local mental health agency you need assistance.
You are not doing that job for the rest of your life. You are doing it now, because you need to provide basic needs for yourself. By getting up and going to work today, you are earning money to pay for your rent, food and necessities. It does not need to be your forever job and you do no need to love it. Stay focused on why you want to do the best job possible at this job. You are strong enough to show up to work. You can learn from your coworkers how to do your job well. You can take satisfaction in accomplishing a good shifts work. If you quit, your downward spiral has less chance to recover.
Good luck
Start searching for another job, if this one makes you want to die. Nobody should have to suffer like that. 🤷🏻
I would reccommend talking with a therapist and looking at different types of therapies and maybe medication.
As for the job:
What type of environment/industry could you work in that is similar to music? One where you could build network and connections with? That might be a better fit and make you not want to die as much.
What kind of job is it
Do it for 2 weeks. If you still feel drained the quit.
Jesus relax, you’ll be fine.
Go for a run my friend. It is a game changer with depression.
Not almost 20. Boy you barely just got started. Success does not happen overnight and Rome was not built in a day!
This sounds odd but have a look at diary of a CEO and Jordan Petersons podcasts. Just type in “Jordan Peterson depression” or “diary of a CEO depression” into YouTube or Spotify. Vex King’s audiobooks. They’ve changed people lives. Seriously.
(Also I’m not a fan of JP, but I can’t lie his job is to turn peoples lives around and he’s got some great advice.)
A good diary of a CEO podcast is the episode with the Hardest Geezer (the guy who ran the length of Africa recently). He has the most INSANE stories from it and it’s SO gripping!! He talks a bit about how he turned his life around but also genuinely just listen for the cool story of Africa it’s unreal
Also, yeah you are only 20. Deep breaths babes. Pop some headphones in, lay down in a field in the sunshine and listen to the podcasts x
This is why you don’t spoil your kids…
To be fair, if you were in a war zone where people sell homemade bread on the war torn streets, you would not be so sad to get a job like the one you currently have.
I think humans have an amazing potential to adapt to things when things get super duper bad. When I am struggling with my first world problems, I tend to imagine my potential if I was in a war zone.
Not trying to mock you. Just explaining my perspective.
This is what I tell everyone… never stop applying. Idc if you found the best job in the world it can turn on you just as fast because you just happened to luck into coming in at a good time. It was never set up for anyones happiness and the people that own your soul there don’t care about your happiness.. they care about their money and thats it. I wouldn’t quit… but i would be applying like crazy… If employers are ready to replace you like they would a defective stapler then you have to be ready too. Always keep applying even if you’re not quite ready to leave the current job.
