Hey fellow devs! 👋 I recently hit my 2-year mark as a dev and I’m starting to question if I’m being underpaid. I’d love to hear from those of you who have more experience in the industry. Here’s a bit of context:
– I work remotely for a large US agency as a Lead Front End Developer.
– I use Nextjs, Typescript, Tailwind, and other modern libraries for my projects.
– My current salary is $65k CAD.
– I feel like I should be getting paid more, especially now that I’m handling more complex projects.
I’ve tried discussing this with my manager, but it seems like a review might not happen until next year. 🤔 Any advice on how to handle this situation? Here’s what I’m considering:
– Research industry standards for salaries in your area.
– Prepare a list of your accomplishments and the value you bring to the company.
– Schedule a meeting with your manager to discuss your concerns professionally.
Any insights or tips would be greatly appreciated! Let’s help each other out. 💡 #DeveloperCommunity #CareerGrowth
If you can get higher paying offers, yes. If you can’t, then no.
Job hop.
Search for another offer, and threaten to hop (actually hop if they don’t raise) if you get one.
Get another job, then hippity hoppity quit coding their intellectual property
You’re significantly underpaid compared to industry average but only slightly underpaid compared to current market offers.
You are however also over-titled, and if you’re truly getting leadership experience and leading a team, that’s going to help you a lot with long term growth.
I was recently hiring pretty much this exact title at 1.5x this, mostly with candidates from EU and LATAM (where salaries are much lower than Canada), but the candidates we seriously considered had 6-10 years experience.
