I accidentally applied for a rocket scientist position even though I struggle with basic math. Turns out they just needed someone to make coffee for the real scientists. Now I’m the official Rocket Fuel Barista at NASA.
A few years ago, I applied to a high-paying sales job (3x my current salary) thinking I should just go for it. For some reason I got accepted however I resigned after a month. Not going into a lot of details, but the company culture is questionable…and I’m sure that I won’t be happy staying there.
Sometimes, I think the money I earned if I stayed is enormous, however, I’m pretty sure my mental health would have dropped to zero.
I don’t regret my choice.
It went well and I’m still working there three years later
Couldn’t tell a spreadsheet from a bedsheet. Now I’m head of finance.
Actually surprisingly well. I applied for a half QA/half support role (that ended up being mostly QA) and landed the job because I did well on the interview. It was a ton of imposter syndrome for the first few months as I learned the software and technologies that I had zero experience in, but after that I realized that about 80% of what I was doing was stuff that I learned on the job so it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
The company ended up getting bought out, and I lost my job along with about 80% of the people on my team but I used the experience I had to start my own business which is going fairly well.
