Hey everyone, I’m opening up about my career struggles and looking for some advice 🤔
So, I’m 34 years old and have spent years drifting from one job to another without really finding my passion or building a solid career. 😞
Here’s a quick rundown of my situation:
– Got a degree in communications but haven’t used it effectively
– Took random jobs based on others’ suggestions
– Faced job gaps and got fired twice due to conflict of interest
– Took a year off due to a crisis last year and now starting from scratch with a temp job
I’m ready to turn things around and build a fulfilling career for myself. 🚀
Here are some steps I think could help, but I’d love to hear your insights too:
– Take time to reflect on your interests and strengths
– Seek out career counseling or mentoring
– Update your resume and LinkedIn profile
– Network with professionals in your field of interest
– Consider further education or certifications to enhance your skills
What do you think? Any other suggestions to help me get back on track and build a successful career? Let’s chat! 💬
I would say deal with your issues of regret and loss. Start mapping a life you want to live and what would help you get there. Maybe think about going back to school? Accept this is where you are and take responsibility in the fact that only you can help you. If you do not have a direction you are going, then you are lost.
Following as im in the same situation
Exact same boat here! My job history makes zero sense and follows really no sort of pattern, I’ve flip flopped all over the place trying to find what sticks. I feel a lot of embarrassment about it, especially because in college i was so hopeful things would just fall into place the way they’re meant to. So far that hasn’t been the case.
Sure sounds like you are doing stuff now to working on improving your life.
At 34 you are just starting out and I know it sounds crazy but that is what we experienced.
I did have to learn some lessons along the way and what Steve talks about is what those are.
Knowledge is the key to getting ahead but it is not only having knowledge but knowing how to apply it so as to improve your situation.
For me it was not about having a specific career but of living a life and for me the dream was to get married have some kids along with a place of our own.
Then that’s what I did when I went off to college, met a lady with a similiar dream and worked to accomplish it.
A job was just a means to be able to live the dream, what I figured out is that life is not easy, fair or perfect but you do the best you can with what you got.
It took us both the first 30 yrs of life to figure things out then another 30 to work and live that life then now at 63 another 30 to live a retired life enjoying our two sons and two grand kids.
