Hey everyone, I could really use some advice here. I’m 32 years old and have only worked dead-end jobs with no degree and no real passions to speak of. It’s been a tough road with difficult living situations and constant struggles.
Here’s where I’m at:
– Worked in warehouses and as a cashier, but nothing long-term
– Only have a GED
– Enjoy reading and video games, but unsure how to turn them into a career
– Interested in tech, but overwhelmed by the options and worried about my ability to learn coding
I really just want something secure with a decent wage so I can survive and hopefully start a family one day. Any suggestions on where to start or what steps to take next?
One possible solution I’ve been considering is:
– Look into tech bootcamps or online courses to learn coding and programming
– Explore entry-level tech positions to gain experience and build a career in the field
– Network with professionals in the tech industry to learn more about different job opportunities
I know it can be tough, but there’s always a way to turn things around. Feel free to share your thoughts and advice! 💡🚀
I’m right there with you man, my back is shot my knees are shot I need to get my shit together.
You can learn coding on your own if you want to see if it’s for you. Odin project and freecodecamp
Shit I’m 37 M with damn degree and that damn debt and I also hate life.
I work at the USPS pay is good for no degree.
go to school, get an associates
Just a warning, tech is on fire right now and boot camps might be an investment with no return if you don’t accompany a CS degree with it.
Cdl? Trade apprenticeship. I know it’s rough out here man, you got it, though. You’re young and wise. I’d start off first finding your passion/desire.
If I were 32 in your spot, I would become a welder and go work at spaceX in Boca Chica TX. They are making history down there. They are even building a small city nearby for the workers.
Try community college. Try for a 2 year degree in something stable like accounting. In those 2 years use the courses that you did take and will take to influence your interviews.
Also 32 with the same situation (but have associates degree). For now I’m content with life and don’t feel a fire to do better. Going back to college scares me too. What if going back makes my finances unstable due to the debt? What if my career doesn’t improve to warrant the cost of school. I feel scared to rock the boat.
Reading and video games count as hobbies, those are my main 2 sources of entertainment too. Not everyone likes outdoorsy things. Maybe for your mental and physical health it would be good to do some public activity or exercise too.
I guess I don’t have any advice, just saying you’re not alone. I’m just coasting through life doing my own thing without much purpose. I wouldn’t recommend the lifestyle, but it could be worse
I’m the same more or less just turned 29 , only a GED . Looking for another dead end job currently and I’m not sure if I want to enroll in a two year all online computer programming/coding course or just work a dead end self educate until I’m confident enough with coding then maybe college for it
Welding, lab tech, ultrasound tech, have you looked into trades like these?
I’m in a similar situation, except with a degree and a side gig that has been super successful publically and exposure but not really financially.
What I can tell you is there’s no way of predicting the future but try to use your off hours to develop a skill other than your main day job. This will pave a path to a different direction that could shake things up and change it a bit
During COVID I was fortunate to be sheltered from the lockdown storms but I developed a new skill in my time and continued engaging on social media.
I got a city job that was short lived but my work was published in less than 3 months.
I can’t say exactly what it was but I was a developer of some type (confidential) that helped me further my portfolio and career in a direction I never thought I would take.
I’m similarly struggling now but I’m better off than I would have been doing the same routine again and again. Life is about change so use that to your advantage.
You should try working for yourself. Sell something to someone. U can take out a small business loan even if u have bad credit. Life starts with risk
Get forklift certified if youre already doing warehouse jobs
Instructional Assistant at your local school system. Sure, you’ll have to work extensively with kids with Mental Health issues all day but it’s a check, it’s steady, days off are predictable, and most of the kids are pretty nice once you develop a relationship with them.
You can always enlist
You can get free college by working at kfc and through the kfc foundation, kfc will pay for your tuition at WGU. Which is an online school where people can accelerate through degrees and knock them out in under a year. You can work one day a week and have 100 percent of tuition paid. Idk why more people don’t try this.
Get a degree or start a business.
Just going be blunt here, you discover your passions through trying different things and putting in a lot of effort. It kind of sounds like you’re being a bit lazy and pessimistic and that combination is a dream killer. I’m sure there’s multiple things that you’re not only passion about but good at, in order to figure out what they are you have to fake it till you make it. Spend yourself learning, trying new things, and getting out of your comfort zone. It’s the only real way to find yourself and learn to thrive so to speak.
