Roasting your resume isn’t about tearing it apart; it’s about refining it to meet the high standards of IB and CB roles. By focusing on clarity, relevance, and quantifiable achievements, you’ll ensure your resume stands out in the competitive banking landscape. Best of luck! 🍀
Your GPA isn’t great and that’s going to just be a no go for most BB IB roles, sorry to say. Really anything below a 3.6 these days is too low. Commercial Banking is a little more loose and also doesn’t have the same cycles (IB recruiting for summer 2025 is finished in the US)
Did you pre-write bullet points for your summer internship this year? That’s strange, and why is that not also listed as “present”?
Write a bullet for that current role that talks about something you lead or something you’ve actioned, it’s very bland right now.
Bad university, no directly relevant internships, bad gpa, BB IB is out of the picture for you. Also, remove investing and personal finance from your interests, I promise you those are not your interests.
– Education to the bottom
– Order the workplaces in a way that the ones you are working still are at the top. Currently at first glance it looks like you are not working.
– Reverse the order of your role and the company name. Your role is more important than XXX Foods.
Your last bullet under leasing consultant is so grammatically incorrect / incoherent
You won’t get in now but plan ahead. Join an accounting firm, work hard to get into a good MBA school, get your grades right, then try and get into banking or consulting.
How exactly were you put as a lead consultant for the team of 5 without even a bachelor’s I’m genuinely confused
Why do you think its a good idea to pre write your bullet points before the summer even ends for your current internship?
Don’t write “August 2024” write -present.
Also how can your investment trading association use past tense if it’s still present?
Also remove gpa if below a 3.5.
You didn’t utilize quickbooks for bookkeeping, you used it
Dude if you posted this for feedback stop arguing when ppl give you advice. They r trying to help u improve, not just attack you.
If this was on my desk as soon as I see 3.22 it’s in the garbage bin. Target other roles that are not IB/ commercial.
you’re good pop into a online resume scanner improve and aim for regional boutiques
Bad GPA
Take people’s advice and maybe your gpa might get to a 3.3 lol
Jokes aside this issue the correct resume format, but adding to what others said, remove the period at the end of each line, maybe elaborate further on each bullet. I would avoid putting more than a line in the 2024 summer experience, you might come off to reviewers as faking it
Stack boutique internships. You need like 2/3. Look up on Google. Easily doable. Not doing BB is not the end of the world
FWIW I am a VP at an EB in NYC office, I generally oversee non-core recruiting sometimes help out with core interviewing.
GPA is obviously glaring – hopefully you can get that up by next round of applications.
I think others have captured most of the glaring issues but what I will say is that you have nothing interesting to offset that low GPA for example your accounting internship only lists “bookkeeping”, no accounts receivable work no working capital assessment nothing. so even if I wanted to bring up your CV, I have nothing to defend you with given your low GPA relative to other candidates.
also, small nits, which candidly I do think about in context of you being an analyst and not having attention to detail, but “$1 million dollars” and then next line “$50 million” – not consistent and don’t need “dollars”.
Your interests, IMO, as listed, are boring. Make them a bit more engaging.
Can I ask how ur deans list with 3,22 GPA?
Interests are something you tell in an interview so I suggest you remove em
How did your GPA go from 3.14 in your first post to 3.22?
No chance of BB IB, ur stats r bad but ur attitude/ego is even worse
you should focus on getting a corporate finance internship, like FP&A or treasury (accounting is a good stepping stone to FP&A), do that for 4-5 years, and try to get your GPA as high as possible, then apply to a M7 MBA and go into IB then. The only exit post MBA that will be unavailable to you will be Mega fund PE and very prestigious hedge funds. Anything else within the world of finance will be available after a MBA-Associate stint.
I had a worse GPA (2.4) than you, with worse internships, at a semi target going into my junior year summer, networked my ass off to get into corp fin and will be going to an M7 school with scholarship in the fall. My school has a 95% placement rate for internships. You will be wasting your time trying to get into IB at the analyst level with your current profile. If you go to a non target you gotta be the best of the best at your school AND network your ass off. Or be very rich and well connected. If thats not you, dont bother at the analyst level.
