Are you struggling with maintaining your energy at work? Do you find yourself easily distracted and losing motivation? It’s not uncommon to feel this way, especially if you suspect you have ADHD. As someone who has struggled with similar issues, I understand the importance of finding ways to increase energy and motivation in the workplace. In this article, I will share some tips and strategies that can help you improve your energy levels and stay motivated at work, despite the challenges of ADHD.
Understanding ADHD and its impact on energy levels
ADHD, or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, can significantly impact an individual’s energy levels and ability to stay focused. Symptoms of ADHD, such as easily getting bored, feeling restless, and struggling to stay on task, can make it challenging to maintain high energy levels at work. If you suspect you may have ADHD, it’s essential to seek professional guidance and support to better understand how it may be impacting your energy levels and work performance.
Ways to increase energy and motivation at work
1. Implement a structured routine
– Establish a daily schedule that includes specific times for work tasks, breaks, and activities that help boost your energy, such as exercise or mindfulness practices.
– Use tools like time-blocking or scheduling apps to create a structured routine that minimizes distractions and supports your focus and productivity.
2. Incorporate regular physical activity
– Engage in physical activities that promote increased energy and improved focus, such as walking, yoga, or strength training.
– Take short movement breaks throughout the day to combat feelings of restlessness and boost your energy levels.
3. Prioritize healthy eating habits
– Consume a balanced diet that includes nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains to fuel your body and sustain energy levels.
– Avoid excessive consumption of sugary or processed foods, as they can lead to energy crashes and decreased motivation.
4. Create a supportive work environment
– Communicate with your manager or colleagues about your challenges with maintaining energy and focus at work, and explore potential accommodations or strategies to support your productivity.
– Designate a work area that minimizes potential distractions and supports your ability to stay on task.
5. Practice stress management techniques
– Incorporate stress-relief practices, such as deep breathing exercises, meditation, or mindfulness, to reduce feelings of overwhelm and replenish your energy reserves.
– Set boundaries around work-related stressors, such as excessive workload or unrealistic expectations, to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
Final thoughts: You are not alone in your struggle to maintain energy and motivation at work, especially if you suspect you have ADHD. By implementing structured routines, prioritizing physical activity and nutrition, fostering a supportive work environment, and practicing stress management techniques, you can improve your energy levels and stay motivated despite the challenges of ADHD. Remember to seek professional guidance and support to better understand and address the impact of ADHD on your work performance. With the right strategies and support, you can overcome the barriers to maintaining energy and motivation at work.
I also have ADHD. As long as I take my adderall I’m fine. If I forget yeah then I’m pretty lethargic.
Job hunting sucks. Keep that as your motivation. Tell your boss you do your work, ‘energy’ (tf does that even mean?) costs extra. Idk man I dont have patience for managers commenting on my attitude when the work is getting done, I got stresses man Im not faking enthusiasm for 40 hrs a week
I stay at home and work remotely ;D
What do you do at work? Is it something creative or just administrative boring stuff? The latter one would kill me too.
I increase my mass
Just fake it IMO. If you are proud of completing a task quickly or efficiently, let them know, ask follow up questions about new projects, Asking if there is anything they need assistance with at the moment, how can I support the team today, blah blah blah.
What’s your opinion towards drugs such as amfetamines ?
I’m not sure what this means. I’d ask for an example of what someone looks like doing this.
Do they want you to smile more? Ask more questions? Take on more work?
I’m a ‘low-energy’ person and hold a senior-level position. How important is ‘energy’ at your workplace, or in your role? To me, your manager’s comment sounds a bit silly… You get your work done, and I assume you are not a trouble-maker in the workplace (otherwise, that would be a bigger concern for your manager to want to address than your energy level).
If your low energy is coming from boredom, try to work with your manager to find something more challenging to work on, so that you can keep learning and contributing to the team more (or whatever positive spin you can put to it). Or try to look at your current role/responsibilities differently so you find meaning/value in your day-to-day. What do you want to do more? What would you like to have learned 3 months from now?
If you are concerned that your boredom has something to do with conditions like ADHD, find a professional to consult and get coaching.
I have bulk powders stevia packet at work. Initially, they all thought it was cocaine but then they tried it and realized it’s a sweetener. No one ever tried it again as they didn’t like it. Now that the sweetener is finished, I decided to fill it with real cocaine. Now every time I get coffee I go to my locker and take the packet out and be like anyone who wants some cocaine, but all my co-workers think I’m joking. Really I enjoy some coke with my coffee every morning and mid day and they all joke it’s cocaine even though I tell them the truth it is. No one believes me. I always tell the truth best way to live 😂
Jobs are fine to be boring! It’s just your way to make money to enjoy the rest of your life.
I find your managers feedback interesting… what the hell does “show energy” mean? Might be something to follow up with them. If they want you to engage more or be more talkative, etc… then you can simply add that to your routine and get on with your day.
I’d ask for further clarification
I will usually have a sour diesel style energetic /creative/uplifting. Great for a hyper focused state
Lines of Cocaine in the bathroom.
Get a diagnosis beb
I find things that I enjoy doing and throw myself into them while not neglecting the less enjoyable tasks.
I had to record a video about our product once and the marketing person came back asking for more energy. I just told them that the energy I’m giving is the energy I have. If they have advice on increasing my energy in the video I’d be happy to work with them 1:1 to get it to a point that works. Never heard back.
I think you have to pretty useless to comment on someone’s energy if they’re getting the job done. If I don’t have the energy it’s because the environment blows monkey balls and that’s always the managers fault. In which case, they can all suck a big bag of cocks.
I don’t even understand the complaint. If your work is quality and done on time, wtf does ‘your energy’ have to do with anything? Do you deliver presentations or something?
An 8 ball for breakfast can be beneficial I am told.
If you get bored, make your own darn job.
Look at how to improve things and productivity. Pitch your boss, pitch your bosses boss. Put yourself to work – on something you like.
Just wear more pieces of flair. (Office Space joke)
Increasing your weekly physical activity level will increase overall energy levels. It will also help with ADHD symptoms if you have them.
If you eat a lot of sugar you will be experiencing a crash from that periodically through out the day.
If you drink coffee try to wait until 90 minutes after you wake up to drink it. There are hormones and chemicals involved in waking up that are interrupted by caffeine (sorry I can’t remember the names). Waking up naturally prevents the afternoon crash from coffee.
Also avoid medicating for ADHD if at all possible. It DESTROYS your ability to sleep properly. It is an amphetamine.
Good luck
The long-haul of healthy habits, sorry. You have to do all the things or request medication for a condition.
