“Struggling to find joy in your job? Learn how to push through burnout at work and explore ways to rediscover satisfaction while balancing life as a single mom and homeowner making $62k #jobburnout #workfromhome #careeradvice #parenting #mentalhealth“
This is something that I struggle with too, sometimes. I’ve been lucky to have a very fulfilling career up to this point. My current job is definitely more transitionary- I’m just there to learn some skills and move on in a year or two.
My co-worker often reminds me that sometimes a “job is just a job.” It’s okay to not always be making big career strides or be doing the most fulfilling work. Use this job as a stepping stone. Do what you need to do to get the bills paid and shut off your computer at the end of the day. Start applying for things that might be a better fit, and just get by for now.
Lobotomy.
Accept that you won’t love it. Take advantage of the simple joys that you can gain when you gain them. Each joy is a win. Each student who learns is a success. It is a means to an end. It is called “work” to separate it from “fun”. Each joy that you get is beating the system.
Just like relationships, you can’t always force love if it’s no longer there. You can learn to be grateful, but that “love” aspect might need to be reevaluated by stepping back a bit and reflecting from a distance.
Find/set more challenging goals. Do them for you
It’s probably not what you want to hear, but as someone who hasn’t “loved” their job (or even liked it) for probably 20+ years now – you don’t. You learn to admit it’s paying the bills, keeping a roof over your head, and food on the table. Then you go do something you do.love when you aren’t working.
I will admit I’m not a mom, and I can’t imagine how difficult it is to be exhausted from a job you hate and then have to go home and put on a brave face for the kids as well as doing everything that needs to be done around the house. But all I have to offer is to continue to take stock of your transferrable skills and keep looking for something else.
Could you do tutoring? As a trainer on healthcare, is there something on healthcare you could switch to? There’s a few options that may be possible, but it’s up to you to go look for them. I’m looking to switch to something with more options for promotion without having to do more hours, In the meantime, I suck up my job and enjoy my hobbies and family because at least I know I’m paying my way and keeping us fed and housed.
Hope you figure it out, good luck!
Don’t leave your job until you have a new one. The job market has changed, and algorithms decide if your app gets viewed or not, and being unemployed/having an employment break will not be viewed favorably.
That being said … just start applying to new jobs. Apply for the level up from where you are at as many companies as you can find, apply for jobs that appeal to you, apply to the same job you have at new companies, and don’t give up. It will give you something to keep going for.
You learn to love your days off enough where you put up with going to work to pay for it.
Do the bare minimum.
Tough it out until you are in a stronger financial position.
