To add to this, sometimes I like to go to interviews just to keep my edge honed. I go in with absolutely zero intention of taking a job offer from them, i just like the practice. Good interviewing skills must be maintained or like anything you don’t use, you’ll lose.
It is a good idea to review your resume from time to time and see what you can add.
Your job might have changed without you really noticed it. Like you may have got more responsability, learned a new skill, trusted to do something else, or simply that the market changed and caused your job to be something different than what it was.
Maybe you will remember something important from an older job too! Usually it do not matter much, but maybe this will be the key for a plan B job in case you get fired and need a new job.
Interview at least once a year to find out what you’re worth. Even if you’re comfortable where you are.
Update your resume every time you do a corporate review.
Especially true if you have a CV.
Probably took me three or four times of having to rack my brain: “wait, when did I do that presentation? Was it 2021 or 2020? What was the title?”
Now as soon as I finish a publication or seminar, I immediately enter it into my CV, then change the file name with the new date.
Yup always keep on the training ball and for F****s sake network constantly always, lunch meetings, odd phone calls email whatever.
Or work for government and stay in the same job for 20 years. Seriously.
Keeping tabs on your current work environment and jotting down questions for future employers is also a smart move. Think about it, you’re basically creating a cheat sheet to help you gauge if a new job is the right fit for you. Plus, people can’t really lie about their workplace vibe – there are always signs. So, whenever something strikes you, jot it down. When you’re ready to explore new opportunities, you’ll have a solid list of things to ask about. It’s like giving yourself a head start in finding the perfect job match.
So basically live to work. Make friends for work. Breathe for work
