🎉 Finally landed a role after 10 months and thousands of applications! 🙌
Hey everyone! I just wanted to share my journey of landing a new role after a long and grueling process. It definitely wasn’t easy, but I learned a lot along the way. Here are some key takeaways that might be helpful for those still on the job hunt:
- Quantity matters: Don’t just focus on a few companies, apply to as many relevant roles as you can.
- Apply strategically: Don’t just apply mindlessly, make sure you qualify for the roles you’re applying for.
- Don’t dwell on applications: Apply and move on to the next opportunity to avoid getting discouraged.
- Optimize your resume and LinkedIn: Make sure your profiles are tailored to the job postings to beat ATS systems.
- Use AI tools: Consider using tools like GenAI to help customize your resume and cover letter.
- Use reputable job portals: LinkedIn, Otta, and remotive.com were the most effective for me.
- Be cautious with HR recruitments: They may not always result in actual interviews.
As someone in the Product Management field, I know how tough the job market can be. If you’re facing similar challenges, don’t lose hope! Keep pushing through, and things will eventually fall into place. Best of luck to everyone still on the job hunt! 🍀

Questions for you:
1. How long would you say you put into the average application? You said you used GenAI – does that include the time it took to edit their output. Based on my napkin math you were averaging 8 applications a day. Did you do 8 hours of applying each day?
2. Did you create different GenAI threads for the resume and the cover letter generator, or did you use a single prompt?
3. Did you use any ATS scanner services like Jobscan along with GenAI?
4. How often did you add skillsets to your linked-in profile that you knew you could do but you had not done in a previous job?
5. Did you do any “spearfishing” or cold-calling hiring managers?
6. Did your job come from a cold application or a hot lead?
7. What would your advice be for someone who also has a broad career but their roles don’t match any specific niche like PM?
Congrats, and good info…
Congrats , happy for you 😀
I’m sorry but it’s absolutely insane and ridiculous that people put out 1000+ applications. The most I have ever done was 15 and that felt stressful lol
How are people supposed to be able to pay rent while fighting through this? Pay for food? It’s insane. Can’t just expect people to settle for working 2-3 part time jobs just to make ends meet while trying to fight for a fulltime job actually in their field for nearly a year?!
Is it a good enough job, a dream job, or something in between?
