#CompTIAA+ #EntryLevelIT #FirstJobInIT 🎉
Finally got my foot in the door in the IT industry and I couldn’t be happier! It has been a long journey but I made it! I completed my CompTIA A+ 1101 back in November and finished the 1102 a month ago. I primarily used Messer’s videos and Dion’s practice tests to prepare for the exams. Now, I want to share with you my experience and tips on how I landed my first entry-level IT job.
##The Power of a Positive Mindset
I know that this subreddit sometimes sees posts about how tough it is to break into the IT job market. However, I chose to focus on the success stories of people who managed to get the job they wanted. Having a positive mindset may not miraculously land you a job, but it can definitely make the studying and applying process a bit easier.
##The Application Process – A Necessary Evil
Applying for jobs can be exhausting and frustrating. I can’t imagine sending out 100+ applications like some people do. Kudos to them! I personally filled out about 20 applications and didn’t hear back from anything noteworthy. If you find yourself in a similar situation, don’t lose hope.
##Taking a Proactive Approach
I decided to take matters into my own hands and researched every small and medium-sized IT company near me. Instead of sending out online applications, I printed out physical copies of my resume and visited each company in person. I made sure to speak directly with someone and be honest about my lack of practical experience, despite passing the CompTIA exams.
##The Payoff – Landing My First IT Job
After visiting multiple companies, I landed a job at a fairly small IT company with about 15-20 employees. The role mainly involves help desk tasks with a bit of networking. It’s exactly what I had hoped for in my first IT job, even though the pay isn’t where I want it to be just yet.
##Top Tips for Landing Your First IT Job
– **Have a positive mindset:** Believe in yourself and your abilities.
– **Be proactive:** Don’t wait for opportunities to come to you, go out and find them.
– **Utilize networking:** Reach out to people in the industry and ask for advice or job leads.
– **Tailor your resume:** Highlight your CompTIA certifications and any relevant skills or experiences.
– **Practice your interview skills:** Be prepared to answer common IT interview questions and demonstrate your knowledge.
– **Don’t get discouraged:** Rejection is a part of the job search process; keep pushing forward.
In conclusion, landing your first IT job may seem daunting, but with the right mindset and approach, it is definitely achievable. Remember to stay positive, be proactive, and put yourself out there. Believe in your abilities and don’t be afraid to take risks. You never know where your determination and hard work may lead you in the IT industry. Good luck on your journey to a successful career in IT! 🚀
Awesome, congratulations! Good to know old fashioned walking in doors with Resume in hand still works. I suggest after 6 months start looking again as with that on your resume you will be a lot more valuable.
Congratz! I’m going to vocational school this year to study systems and networking. I’m studying for Net+, CCNA and Sec+ in the meantime. Honestly, I may do the same in Spain. It causes a good impression. How old are you?
I’m curious how this was able to work for you. Don’t most businesses have locked doors? How did you get in? Did you have any negative reactions to you showing up?
