You won’t believe it—exactly five months after being laid off on March 20th, I just got a fantastic job offer! 🎉 Not only is it with the county, but it comes with some amazing benefits and, get this, a vehicle! 🚗 The only catch? I had to go through a grueling four-hour polygraph test—definitely felt like torture! But honestly, I couldn’t care less because I’m just so thrilled about this new opportunity. I’ve got two weeks of freedom ahead of me, and I plan to enjoy every second without the weight of income stress hanging over my head. 🙌
Looking back, I didn’t keep track of how many applications I sent out, but trust me, it was a lot! I felt adored by some, only to be ghosted by five recruiters. How frustrating is that? 😅 It’s tough out there, but I managed to hold on without dipping into my unemployment benefits. Now, I’ve got a little bonus waiting for me too! 🥳
For those still in the job search grind, here are some quick tips to keep the momentum going:
- Explore Local Opportunities: Check out your city, county, and state government websites for open positions. You might be surprised at what’s available!
- Don’t Wait for Your Dream Job: Remember, it’s okay to start somewhere. This job will allow me to apply for other positions within the county later on.
- Keep the Faith: Job hunting can feel like a rollercoaster. Stay persistent, even if you face a few setbacks.
And can we take a moment to talk about LinkedIn? Ugh! I’m so tired of seeing all those B2B sales articles clogging my feed! 😤 What happened to genuine connections and job resources?
Now that I’ve found my footing, I’m curious to hear from you all! Have you had a similar experience in your job search? What strategies worked for you? Let’s share our stories and tips below! 💬
Congrats on the job! I too was laid off (even longer than you, January of last year) and finally got a job with the state! Honestly, I gave up on LinkedIn and applying to the private sector as I was ghosted sooooo many times, and being a previous recruiter, decided it was time to try and pivot into the stability of government life, and it worked!
Congratulations! I am having my breakthrough soon too! God is good!!
Congrats
Congratulations!! So happy for you! May this job go smoothly and be everything they promised!
Congrats. I got laid off in May, so on the job hunt currently, thankfully I live at home so I don’t have income worries but being out of work sucks. Hope the new job goes well.
