Hey ladies! 💁♀️Let’s spill some secrets on how to effortlessly look well put together for work! 💼 We all know the struggle of running late in the morning but still wanting to show up looking fabulous. Well, worry not, because I’ve got some quick and easy tips to help you achieve that professional yet stylish look in no time! ✨💼
First off, let’s talk about clothing. The key is to have a well-curated wardrobe filled with versatile pieces that you can mix and match effortlessly. A crisp white button-down shirt is a must-have – it goes with everything from pencil skirts to tailored pants and can instantly elevate any look. Add a statement necklace or a classic blazer, and you’re ready to conquer the day! 💪💼
For those rushed mornings when you don’t have time to style your hair, reach for some cute hair accessories. A colorful headband or a stylish hair clip can instantly jazz up a simple ponytail or messy bun, giving you that polished look without the fuss. 🔀💇♀️
Makeup can also play a significant role in transforming your appearance. Opt for a minimal yet effective routine that enhances your natural beauty. A touch of BB cream, a swipe of mascara, and a hint of blush can do wonders, giving you a fresh and glowing complexion. Don’t forget to keep a bold lipstick in your bag for those days when you need an extra boost of confidence. 💄💋
Now, let’s talk about accessories. They can truly elevate your outfit to the next level. A statement watch, a delicate necklace, or a pair of classy earrings can instantly add sophistication and personality to your overall look. Choose accessories that reflect your style and complement your outfit, but remember not to go overboard – sometimes less is more! ⌚💍👗
And last but not least, pay attention to the little details. A neatly manicured set of nails in a classic shade or even a trendy nail art can go a long way in enhancing your overall appearance. Don’t forget to slip into comfortable yet chic shoes that give you both style and confidence while conquering the professional world. 👠💅
Remember, looking put together doesn’t mean spending hours getting ready. With these quick and easy tips, you can effortlessly exude confidence and style at your workplace. So, go out there and slay the day, ladies! 💁♀️💼✨
Have a selection of good quality clothes that fit well and are in style and decent shape, and that more or less match. I have a set of work tops that go with black pants / skirt, some that go with blue, and a few that go with tan or khaki. That’s it. No one-offs. Makes getting dressed so much easier and reduces the decisions I have to make.
Hairstyle that requires minimal styling, i.e. no heat treatments / blow drying, straightening, or curling.
A makeup style that’s quick and easy for everyday. I personally do tinted moisturizer, blush, and lip balm. I might take 2 minutes to fight with eyeliner, but that’s the worst of it – save the intense looks for after work.
A couple pieces of jewelry that go with everything.
Good skincare routine, actually making sure that you follow through consistently I find really helps. Oh and flyaway serum, shit is gold.
figure out what silhouettes work for you and start playing with colors/patterns/materials from there. try to pick pieces that can be worn with other pieces in your closet, capsule wardrobe style. nail down a quick 10 min makeup routine (for me that is concealer, eyeliner, mascara, powder, blush)
Spray bottle with water. I have weirdly textured hair, thats curlier-wavy on the bottom but straight on the top. Spraying it with a little water and patting it down with my hands helps the bed head.
Light makeup. a subtle blush, mascara, brow gel, lip liner and gloss. spot conceal if I have a breakout. Takes me 2 minutes.
Have a good amount of closet basics. Neutral colored work pants, shirts, bodysuits, cardigans, work booties. Monochromatic is always a quick way to look put together.
Jewelry. especially earrings. They always make you look nicer without really trying.
Claw clip. Claw clip with some nice earrings and I look bomb af even though I haven’t washed my hair in 5 days.
I have days where my hair looks a mess and I mean it looks like a spiders nest. So I will braid it and add a nice clip on the top of it. I’ll throw on a nice dress and shoes. And if I didn’t sleep well I will put on eyeliner and done. The key is to walk around with confidence. Usually if you can do that anything you put on will look amazing.
Jewelry, bonus points if it matches the outfit. I’ll set out my clothes and jewelry the night before to make sure it looks good together.
Don’t be afraid to wear quirky stuff so long as your job doesn’t have rules against it! I always get compliments on the weirder jewelry and patterned blouses. I have a blouse with little skulls all over it and always pair it with skull/bone earrings. I have another button down blouse with cats on it that I usually pair with silver cat earrings or silver fish bone earrings. And since I wear a lot of blue tops I have a couple blue wood geometric earrings. All get frequent compliments.
Eyelash extensions. When you wear them, you don’t need to wear makeup at all. Just put on lipstick in the morning and go to work. Saves me so much time, that I find the money worth it, even though it’s somewhat expensive
Edit: I should add a tip that I go to Vietnamese salons to get them done because they’re half the price there
Wardrobe is half the battle!
I have black thick leggings and blouses that fit me perfectly in assorted colors and patterns (mostly Loft), and then I have dresses. It’s very simple. All the tops match the black leggings. (I’m a millennial ok. Lol) I wear flats in a few colors that match everything. Sometimes I’ll wear boots in winter.
Just keep it simple and professional so you can grab an outfit in 30 seconds. And then some pearl earrings and gold hoops to accessories. A wool coat for winter.
I have a “work purse” that has all my essentials plus enough room for my lunch.
Take a shower, put my hair up.
The perks of being a night shift cop
get your eyelashes done. they are a game changer! thereafter just wear some lipstick and you’re good to go 😛
Putting on mascara and wet my hair. I have curly hair so as long as I get it wet it will dry looking just fine
Fix my hair, do my make up, make sure my clothes look good, shoes don’t look run down, etc. Just the basics.
Fitted wardrobe in neutral tones to mix and match, good skin and hair routine, minimal jewelry.
I also got permanent makeup done recently, brows, eyeliner, lip blush and get my lashes and nails done as well. Makeup routine is down to five minutes and I’m ready to go.
It sounds cliché but hydration, good nutrition and sleep are so important. I didn’t believe it in the past but the older I get the more sense it makes.
* Natural skin tone
* Natural and good quality (not (over)processed) hair
* Hleathy.. you’ll look and feel good in your clothes and your skin will be better
If you improve your natural look.. you won’t require much additional effort to look put together… What goes on top as long as it’s not much, will look good.
Know hairstyles you can do very easily or flat iron your hair night before to make mornings easier. Also know an under 20 minute makeup routine that you can do everyday.
If I’m ever stuck on outfits I have a Pinterest board just for work looks that I can use for inspo. Own a few nice, good fitting clothing items. I.e a good white tee you can just throw a cardigan or blazer on top of, jeans/pants and shoes. Own a good pair of shoes too and you can style your outfit around that as well.
Hair back in bun .. a range of well fitted office dresses and I’m ready in 5 mins flat.
Take my shower the night before. Lay out my outfit with accessories. I am not a morning person, and this way, I can just be on auto pilot in the am.
Hot rollers. If you don’t have them, spend the $25 and get them. They can heat up while you get a cup of coffee. Put them in, do your make-up, get dressed, take them out and go.
In terms of makeup I do henna every Sunday so I don’t have to work with eyebrows nor lashes except for curling it. Sometimes I add blush, powder, bronzer or corrector if I feel the need to.
This look takes me maximum of 20 minutes in the morning.
Suits! I wore a suit for the better part of 40 years. Sometimes mixed it up with sportswear, but a closet of well tailored suits and timeless silk shells and blouses will serve you well!
Video conferencing – and have a camera failure as required.
If you find something that suits you, buy several, if possible in different colours/colourways. I did this a few years ago with a set of three work shirts and they’re just starting to go west – I wish I’d bought 6. Wearing them in rotation meant they lasted forever.
I like to wear my bangs down when I put a ponytail in but my hair also gets pretty greasy so I’ll put most my hair up, wash just my bangs, and then style them. Boom. Hair looks fresh
A well fitting blazer and a pair of gold hoops can pull a whole outfit together without any effort.
Dresses.
Culturally we’ve reached a point where a dress pretty much automatically looks put together and stylish. But it takes not even half as much effort as putting an outfit together from separates.
So if you have a wardrobe of “dresses suitable for work” then each morning you choose one (1) of those and you’re done. All the difficult decision-making happens once at the point of purchase.
I was given this tip five years ago or so by a woman who always looks stylishly put together. She was very blunt that the answer is “always wear a dress” and she was 100% correct. I hadn’t even noticed that she never wears pants or even separates more generally. Cheat code unlocked.
Buy nice-looking belts that fit well or buy pants with no belt loops. Tuck in your main shirt into your pants, have your top layer flowing out.
I also have cheap Shein suit jackets and I get so many compliments on them.
– dry shampoo
– clean/polish shoes
– bit of matte face powder
– wearing a watch always makes me feel professional!
I mean, I have to face the fact I’ll never look ‘well put together’ as having dreads & piercings will always make me default to ‘scruffy hippie’ even when I dress up, but I make sure to look as presentable as possible lol. Nice well-fitting coordinated outfits, shiny shoes, bit of simple makeup.
Use Skin Weleda Foodie under your make up. It is very thick in your hands, but when you put it on your face it makes it so moisturised and shiny! Just add some light make up on top and your skin/face will look glowy and healthy.
For your hair, a lot of sleek back buns. I always feel like when strands of hair or baby hairs are loose, you instantly look messier. However, when your hair is in a nice tight bun, it makes you look instantly put together.
Maybe not what you are looking for but I started shaving my head almost 4 years ago; not a single bad hair ever since.
If going in to the office, check the weather and plan out clothes for the week on a Sunday. I started doing this years ago when I needed to leave the house at an ungodly hour and it’s been a time saver ever since.
For work clothes I have always had a kind of uniform, dress, cardigan or jacket plus boots and tights. Find your own vibe, but this works for me.
I go for plain and neutral cardigans, jumpers and jackets so they can go with any of the dresses I own, so it’s more mix and match.
I have one pair of black ankle boots and one pair of brown ankle boots, one black work bag and one brown. Again for mixing and matching.
Gold jewellery, simple earrings and a chain. Laid out with my purse so I don’t forget them.
Despite attempts, I am a morning shower girl and wash my fine and greasy hair most days. I use a Shark Flex style to dry my hair and use the round brush attachment to style my hair whilst drying.
Touch of hairspray.
Moisturiser, SPF 50, skin tint (not foundation, I find it too heavy for everyday), translucent powder, brow gel, mascara and tinted lip balm.
Have a good skincare routine, keep brows tidy, remove any chipped nail polish.
Always check and mend any dropped hems or loose threads. Keep a hairbrush (with a a hair band), powder compact, lip balm with a tint in my handbag. Usually also have a mini deodorant too.
Have everything prepped, by the door, up and out in 45mins.
Capsule wardrobe. Clothes in silhouettes and color palettes that go well together so it’s easy to put things together. I find that the right pair of shoes can also make or break an outfit
I used to wear a suit for work, and I loved it. Jacket, pants, and a short sleeved sweater, and I didn’t even have to iron! A couple of coordinated accessories made dressing it up so easy; shoes, belt, scarves, jewelry.
I hated casual Fridays because they required much more effort to put together, so sometimes I’d wear a suit on Friday anyway.
Even if your work isn’t a suit kind of place, coming up with your own “uniform” can really simplify getting dressed in the morning.
I work in healthcare so for me I try to make sure my scrubs are not too baggy, I use brow gel on my eyebrows and have my fake lashes on. I also like to put on the drunk elephant bronzing drops after i do my skincare
1. Lay out what you’re wearing the night before so even if you wake up late you’re ready to go. It also means that if anything has a spot or loose threads you’ll know and won’t have to frantically look for a new shirt when you’re in a hurry.
2. Have a work uniform that’s consistent. My winter uniform is dark slacks and a colored cotton top with a cardigan over it.
3. I wear different colors on different days and I always know which top to pick for which day. I have earrings that go with the top color and a simple belt and walking shoes or boots.
I always feel presentable in this and it’s just fine in my business casual office. All anyone ever says is that I look nice in it.
