#StartupHealth #FoundersWellbeing #BalanceInBusiness
Hey there, fellow founders!
Lately, I’ve been feeling the stress that comes with startup life weighing me down. It’s so easy to get caught up in the hustle that we overlook our own health and wellbeing. Trust me, I know how the pressures of running a business can lead to neglecting self-care! 🙃 But I’m committed to flipping the script and focusing on myself a bit more. That said, I’m really curious about how you all manage to maintain your wellbeing amid the chaos.
- What routines or habits do you have that help you stay mentally and physically fit?
- Are there any particular tools, products, or supplements that you’ve found essential for your wellness journey?
- How do you handle stress, especially during those particularly hectic times?
- Have you explored any holistic or alternative methods that actually bring you comfort and balance?
We all know that juggling business and personal health can be tough. When we skip self-care, it can lead to burnout, reduced productivity, and impacts on our mental health. So, I’d love to hear about what’s been working for you (or even what hasn’t)! Let’s swap some tips and tricks—who knows, we might discover something new and helpful along the way. 🧘♂️✨
Here’s a thought: what’s the one simple change you’ve made that’s had the biggest impact on your wellbeing? Share your thoughts below—I can’t wait to read your stories and suggestions!
Looking forward to an insightful discussion!
1. Hit the Gym, Religiously
2. Reduce/ Avoid Sugar intake
3. Have a Clan of Men/ Women that you go to for psychosocial support or company, once in a while.
4. Identify one productive and engaging leisure activity or hobby and make sure you don’t miss it in a week.
5. Try to have at least one proper meal in a day, however busy you may be.

I’m just starting so I haven’t experienced the real heat but this is how I plan to survive the heat. I hope things work out for me.
Hey, i do several things to keep me motivated and mentally healthy. I medicate and do light yoga with mala beads. I eat a very green diet and I stopped my caffeine intake completely. Turns out that caffeine is addictive and encourages the cycle of drinking even more caffeine! I make sure to go on walks outside, and I go to the nearest mall just to get out and walk around. I love cheap mall massages, and I’m a huge fan of window shopping.
If I’m feeling tired midday, I love my 15-30min power naps. I use something called Sensate to help me sleep and get good sleep (it’s expensive but I really encourage people to get it).
My cofounder is my fiancé, so we make sure to get enough personal time together where we don’t talk about work.
Hope this helps!!
I use theraflix, I try to be as honest as possible to myself, I have a network of founders I spend time in person with, I create a loving and caring relationship with myself, and I always take vision-led decisions for the company. Good luck and I hope you find your way !
You don’t need to work crazy hours. Read basecamp. It will teach you how to grow a successful business without killing yourself
1. Sleep and marathon training
2. Weed and degenerate gambling
3. Repeat
reduce your monthly ongoing living and lifestyle costs to base level. consider an air mattress on a floor somewhere for a few months in a room rental. get on top of your monthly bills and crush them into as small as possible. then you will have the space and freedom to focus, without the burden of bills. this sidesteps some areas to make mega strides in other areas. this also allows time for walks and reflection and peace.
Hey OP.
I do a few things that help me stay motivated and in kind of a flow state. I wake up at roughly the same time every day because I’m asleep at roughly the same time every night. I’ll go for a light jog/walk in the morning, then meditate for 30 minutes with some binaural beats before cranking away at whatever I’m working on that day. I make sure to take a 15-20 minute break every few hours and walk the dog, get a little fresh air, etc.. I’ve gone keto with diet so lunch is usually greens with some kind of meat/protein. Lots of water throughout the day. When I’m meditating, I like to think about something like a tough problem I’m having that I just can’t seem to solve. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had “aha!” moments from a little deep thought in the morning before the start of the day.
– I work 7am to 7pm most days.
– Rarely, if ever, am I awake after midnight.
– Spend lots of time with family and/or friends.
– Never compromise on time away from the desk.
– Do something that’s harder than your startup – lose weight, gain weight, play chess, whatever. Do anything that makes your work seem easy by comparison.
Everything comes from four gas tanks; time, money, morale, and focus.
You can trade these around, but it’s not a 1 for 1 ratio. Like you can “buy” more free time by trading money for help.
Your morale and focus are the hardest to “buy back” so they have to be protected the most.
I schedule 4 hour chunks of heads-down focus… no meetings, no travel, no quick questions… just thinkin time. Or my morale goes to shit.
I treat care of my personhood like a religion, sleep is sacrosanct. If you don’t sleep well, nothing else works. Get tested, get medication if needed. “Sleep must flow!”
Aside from that, get correct amounts of healthy foods in a way that doesn’t make you sad. I take a lot of gummy vitamins to manage chronic health stuff, in addition to medications.
I take Iron, Calcium, vitamin A, all the B vitamins, CBD, Vitamin C, D, E, K, K2, Magnesium, Omega, Potassium, etc.
All your fun stuff should be a 2-fer or 3-fer.
For example, I swim laps with my cofounder a few times a week. It counts as exercise, fun, and social time. The roller rink would also count, but the hot tub is winning currently.
Try to make work travel not suck. We have switched from flying for work trips, to train sleeper cars. Just being allowed to bring your own booze and walk around? Makes it 1,000x better than plane travel. If it doesn’t matter how long it takes to arrive, take the train. You can work on the train + it feels entertaining.
If you have emotional baggage of family shit, go to Adult Children of Alcoholics and work the steps. It’s for all kinds of childhood disfunction, not just booze.
Also, time box your junk-drawer meetings. Like everyone that wants a coffee to “pick my brain” can show up online every friday between 10-11am on Friday mornings.
I take naps — 15-30 min can really help reset your mindset and give fresh perspective
I also do pelotons regularly to get the endorphins flowing and helps with clear thinking.
* I have a standing desk. My feet killed me for 2 weeks, then I got used to it.
* If I get really tired, I allow myself to lie down and work, for about 2 hours a day.
* I eat a lot of greens and vegetables, and take diet seriously. Don’t be a Pringles Programmer.
* Don’t believe anyone boasting about 16 hour days. You will pay for it at some point.
* Learn to feel when you are clipping into the red, and go back to green or light orange.
* Try and make your life a working holiday, whatever that means to you.
* 15 minutes on each task, here and there, over a year, can add up to success.
* If I have no deadlines or paperwork, I follow my excitement, and only work on the most interesting task. When it gets boring, I switch to the next one. I keep cycling through 3-4 tasks all day, like that.
