Hey everyone! 👋 Have you ever experienced a situation where an employee falsely accused another of racism, sexism, ageism, or any other form of discrimination? Let’s talk about it!
As I prepare for some supervisor training on creating a Respectful Workplace, I’ve come across cases where misunderstandings and misinterpretations have led to serious accusations. It’s a tricky area to navigate, especially with the current social climate.
Share your stories with me! Your experiences could help shape the training material and provide valuable insights for handling similar situations. Let’s learn from each other! 🤝
And remember, open communication, education, and creating a culture of respect and understanding are key in addressing and preventing such issues in the workplace. Let’s work together to foster a positive and inclusive environment for everyone. 💼💬 #WorkplaceCulture #DiversityandInclusion
I had an employee (we’ll call her J) come to me super pissed off about another employee (we’ll call him P). J said that P made an age related comment about her and her husband and she demanded we do something about it.
The context was that J & P had just been chatting about their lives. J is well into her 60’s and P is around 38. J showed a pic of her husband to P, and allegedly P called him Mr Bucks. J felt this was ageist because most people don’t get financially comfortable until they are older.
This wasn’t the only weird leap though. She really had to twist herself into a pretzel to come up with her allegations because after talking with P, he said that he told J her husband looked like Uncle Buck (and he did!).
For those who don’t know, Uncle Buck was a fun movie in the late 80’s with Macaulay Culkin & John Candy (as Uncle Buck).
Some people are walking this earth just looking for ways to be offended!
Unfortunately black employees in lower wage positions accuse their managers of being racist quite regularly and very rarely has their been any legitimacy to it. Which is upsetting to me because I’m black. These are serious accusations and you don’t just throw that card out there because you have an issue with the manager.
Yea, woman claimed her manager was being racist and harassing. Why? He was asking her to come into work on time. She was notoriously late.
Was in the market for a new job and my previous employer called me in and confronted me of their suspicions to which I confirmed.
They then attempted to make claims of sexual harrassment as blackmail to make me stay 6 months to train someone else up. Following the meeting, I felt ‘sick’ and left for the day, never to return.
Had an African American caught smoking pot on the loading dock with a white male coworker also smoking pot got fired. Both of them. The African American filed a title v7 complaint alleging race discrimination. I was a civil rights investigator. When questioned why it was race as both were fired he said the fired the white guy to cover up race.
I (White, F, 29 y/o, HRBP) have an EE (Black, F, 32 y/o, Office Manager) who repeatedly cries racism when things don’t go her way, she doesn’t agree with an outcome, she feels like she had to do more work than she should’ve, etc. Ex: A white, female Sr. Director in another department got promoted to VP. This EE said “she got that promotion for no reason other than she’s white.” This Sr. Director had 10+ years of experience and a PhD in her field. It was MORE than well deserved. Not to mention the EE would have NEVER been up for consideration for that promotion, nor was anyone else in the running. Where is the jealousy coming from?
This is just one example of many, but I’m becoming burnt out from the constant accusations of racism. To the point where I want to say some unsavory things in reply.
A team member sprayed mosquito spray on her legs. Another team member said the scent was overpowering and could she step outside the store to spray it next time? She considered this harassment and bullying
