Hey fellow car enthusiasts! 🚗💸
So I’ve been on the hunt for a new lease and I keep running into this pesky $3000 prairie package that dealers are trying to tack on. I did some digging and it seems like it’s just a bunch of add-ons like a block heater and mats. Nothing too exciting if you ask me.
But here’s the kicker – can we negotiate this out of the deal? Especially if you’re only looking for a short term lease, it might not make sense to shell out an extra $3k for things you might not even need.
Here’s a possible solution for ditching the prairie package and saving some cash:
– Do your research and find out the actual cost of the items included in the package
– Politely but firmly explain to the dealer that you’re not interested in the package and would rather pay for those items separately
– See if the dealer is willing to work with you on removing the package or reducing the cost of the lease
Have any of you dealt with this before? Any success stories or tips to share? Let’s help each other out! 💰🔧 #CarLeasingTips #SaveMoneyOnLease #CarAddOns
Dealer: We have to sell you a $3000 Prairie package because car prices have come down and we need to make as much money as we did during the pandemic
You: I am not interested in it
Dealer: Its mandatory
You: Take $3000 off the MRSP then
Dealer: We cant do that
You: Okay bye.
Negotiate by refusing
It’s a scam, but the sales guy is under pressure to add to dealership profits.
Instead of some fluff package, we agreed to switching to something I would go aftermarket regardless like tow hitch and roof rack cross bars for the same amount.
Hyundai dealers are garbage. I was on a paid waiting list for an Ioniq 5 for almost two years, and they were prioritizing off the street sales unless you bought several thousand dollars work of floor mats and mud flaps.
I told them to get bent and bought a Ford instead.
What province are you in? I had to remind my dealer in AB that advertised price should include non-optional add ons (eg. Block heater)
Your leverage in negotiation is your ability to walk away from the deal.
I’d be surprised and disappointed if I got a new car in Canada and it didn’t come with the basics to make it work here, like a block heater. Is this a Hyundai thing? Or is the dealer up charging standard features?
A what package?
I am a car salesperson in the prairies. At the dealership I work at the only additional accessory we add on is a block heater and we install them in every vehicle that we sell. Manufacturers will not supply them from factory, and the dealership will have to pay for the part and for a technician to install it. They cost about $400-$500. All weather mats should cost about $275 from a dealer. Sounds like they are jacking up prices on something, I would call around to other dealers in the area and see what add ons they include.
Hyundai in bc said the same thing to me, but it was a “safety package,” which included floor mats, a safety kit, and some other BS. I told them not interested in the package as I have all that already, and they retorted with its non-negotiable.
I said fine, I’m still not interested and left the dealership after a test drive and discussing finance options.
They called me a day later, and after back and forth they said they’d give it to me for 500.
If you can wait, they will probably offer you a discount. However, I was completely turned off their BS after the way they forced my hand into buying their crap.
A block heater should be what, $150? Maybe $500 with labor? Less than $1000 in any event. The floor mats aren’t worth *anything*, you can look up the OEM mat prices and be sure the dealership is paying even less, or just compare to a third-party like WeatherTech. The whole package shouldn’t be anywhere close to $3000.
100% that’s not actually mandatory. Probably just what they say.
Just tell them you dont want it and to remove it and that that is non negotiable
Sounds like you’re in SK. I went to a Hyundai dealership who had the same thing in all vehicles they were selling. Said everything was installed and they can’t remove it, and of course gave me the spill about why it’s beneficial.
I don’t think SK has any laws against this, so I walked out.
