Hey everyone, I could really use your thoughts on something that’s been bothering me lately. It seems like my boss is really trying to tarnish my reputation among my coworkers. Here’s the scoop:
- Background: A few weeks ago, I raised a concern about being denied a raise. My boss’s excuse? He claimed it was because I don’t interact enough with my colleagues or speak up in meetings.
- The Gossip: Recently, my coworkers invited me to a meeting where they were venting about our boss. It turns out he had been questioning each of them about my competency. Like, really? I’ve always given my all to meet deadlines and produce quality work. As the only Black male in the team, I’ve felt like I’ve been under a microscope from the start.
- Public Shame: In our one-on-one meetings, he went ahead and told everyone that I was denied a raise—and insisted on naming me. Talk about disrespect! 🤬
- Anonymous Surveys: My boss has been pushing us to fill out anonymous surveys, and one colleague has been giving him terrible scores. Now, my boss thinks I’m the one behind those low ratings, but I’ve actually never filled them out. 😒
Honestly, I’m feeling pretty low right now. It seems like my boss is actively trying to sabotage my reputation, and I’m not sure how to handle it. I don’t really trust HR to step in either. On the bright side, my coworkers seem to have my back, but my motivation is slipping.
I’ve been trying to look for a new job, but the market’s been pretty rough and I haven’t had much luck so far. 🤷♂️
So, I’m turning to you all—what do you think I should do? Have you ever faced a similar situation? How did you handle it? Any tips or advice would really help me out!
That’s awful. Document everything and addrss it professionally.
You can not measure your worth by the standards of those who are unfair. It’s natural that you think he has that right as he is in control of your pay and other workplace matters but in reality you know the scales are tipped. Stop believing he has power to define you as a person and your confidence will become immune.
He has the power to make your workplace life hell though. I hope you get a call back soon. Secure a better job and leave.
Have a lawyer write a cease and desist letter about his unfounded defamation.lol
this is bigger than you, you need to start a chat channel between you and all the others so you can compare notes. Its all of you vs the boss at this point. also assume the chat will get leaked to the boss eventually, so be professional. what the boss is doing is a standard manipulation tactic of controlling the flow of information and isolating everyone
HR would LOVE to hear that your boss is telling your private personnel matters (i.e., that you didn’t get the raise) to your coworkers. That is BIG NO-NO!
