Hey everyone! 👋 I’m looking to switch careers and dive into the world of IT, specifically as a cloud engineer working with AWS Cloud. I currently come from a tax accounting background with no prior experience in IT. I have a few questions and would love your input:
– Is AWS Cloud a viable field for someone with no IT experience?
– Can I self-learn the technical skills needed to land an entry-level position through professional courses?
– Is it possible to work part-time in cloud roles to start and progress in my career?
– How long does it typically take to reach a salary of £75k in this field?
– Can I avoid IR35 complications initially or only once I’ve advanced in my career?
– Where can I gain initial experience in an AWS career?
Any advice or insights you can offer would be greatly appreciated! 😊 I’m eager to hear your thoughts and recommendations on how I can make this career transition successfully. Let’s help each other grow and succeed in the IT industry!
In most cases the career you are after is not exactly a ‘stage one’ type of role. It’s something you move into after a few years of getting experience elsewhere in IT.
Just reading this you have a lot of asks that in my opinion are not entirely realistic.
From an employers point of view you want to jump into a role with no experience, working 3 days a week and in a contract position.
I have been that hiring manager and honestly I would pass on your CV with those requirements out of the gate.
On the other side, yes you can self learn and get into a role, it’s what I did and many of my colleagues did, but unless you are lucky or can leverage connections it’s unlikely to be an easy transition without doing ground roles first.
I don’t meant to be harsh, just realistic on this.
