Is it okay to use my old name on my birth certificate with my name change court order and driver’s license for my summer internship in California? #LegalNameChange #BirthCertificateIssue #CaliforniaInternship
Background Information
I legally changed my name and gender in California last year and updated all my documents except for my birth certificate
Current Situation
I need to start a summer internship in 3 weeks and don’t have time to wait for a new birth certificate
Question
Can I use my old name birth certificate with court order and driver’s license for proof of U.S. citizenship during hiring intake?
For employment purposes you need a list B and C document.
Your ID and SS with your current name will suffice.
[here is I-9 form](https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/i-9.pdf) the list of acceptable documents is on page 2, you can do B + C documents such as US driver’s license/ID card and SS card.
Keep in mind the employer cannot ask you to present specific documents, they can only refer you to the list of acceptable docs.
A passport is a very good document/ID to have and if you pay the expedite fee they return in a matter of weeks. And then you have a state and Federal ID. Good luck.
